International Youth Fellowship (IYF) Ghana, a non governmental organization, would for the third time host its annual camp, world camp 2010, in Ghana.
The event which would start from the July 18-25, is under the theme “Youth and conflicts”.
Ato Edwin, the deputy general secretary of IYF Ghana, said, a large number of students from various parts of the country and the world are expected to attend the camp. Last year the IYF Ghana world camp hosted a total of 2,000 youths from Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, La Cote D’Ivoire, Korea, America, etc. “This year we expect to exceed this number” he added.
Owing to the importance attached to this program, the ministry of education, the ministry of youth and sports, the national youth council and the national union of Ghana students, Zain and a number of media houses have partnered with the international youth fellowship.
The program will be mainly held at the premises and auditorium of the good news mission at community 12 in Tema, as well as a number of venues in Accra, including the international conference centre, and the action chapel on the Spintex road.
On July 23, 2010 a large number of students, both local and international, will engage in a marathon race, themed “race for peace in Ghana”, to send signals to youth in all parts of the country to uphold good virtues and desire for continual peace and stability in our country.
The International Youth Fellowship was established in March 2001 in Korea; on that day it organized the first of its world camp in Korea, for the youth the world over. Since then, the IYF has grown rapidly into a global organization; having annual youth events in the United States of America, Austria, Peru, Hong Kong, Paraguay, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Togo, Benin, Ghana, and still growing in numbers.
Besides creating a global platform for the promotion of cohesion among the youths of the world, the IYF shares its cardinal belief in the transforming power of the word of god and therefore incorporates programs to inculcate the fear of god for the attainment of the right mindset for development.
IYF aims at developing the potential of the youth globally; to create opportunities for them to pick up requisite skills and virtues necessary for the challenges of the 21st century. It is against this backdrop that the international youth fellowship continues to engage the youth all over the world in educative and other programs towards the attainment of its cardinal motto of change, challenge and cohesion.
It believes that bringing the youth of different backgrounds together to engage in numerous activities like listening to the word of god, taking lectures from inspirational speakers who are very abreast with youth issues, inculcating in them the values of living for others by engaging in internal and external volunteering missions, and participating in sports, go a long way to harmonizing most differences among them.
“Through our activities; mainly the world camp, a good number of youths who initially exhibited selfishness and rebellious behaviors have learnt how to share and to understand and live with one another in harmony,” Edwin stated.
