...Independent presidential candidate for the 2012 general elections
The continent of Africa is in its current state largely because of the actions and inactions of her political leaders. Kofi Ahovi examines yet another political figure who has been gaining grounds in Ghana’s political arena.
The mention of African and its leadership precipitates names of actors like Julius Nyerere, Mobuto Seseseko, Kwame Nkrumah, Sani Abacha, Daniel Arab Moi, Laurent Gbagbo, K.A Busia, Idi Amin, Hosni Mubarak, Muamar Ghadaffi and others.
As to who was corrupt, democratic, a dictator and a visionary –it’s your choice to make. Chenua Achebe, one of Africa’s prolific writers said “the problem of Nigeria is a problem of leadership”. This problem seem not be with Africa’s biggest economy (Nigeria) only but its relative smaller ones like Ghana. Ghana as a republic has suffered her lows and high-ups and downs by political actors some elected other imposed.
What matters now are those who are instituting to govern our country. This throws revealing light on the looming December 2012 election, the prevailing question that lingers in all thoughts is; who will be the next president” that will give the Ghanaian the joy and satisfaction to the longing hunger of good governance.
The bible says “when the righteous rule the people rejoice” Prov. 29:2. This brings into the scene, the God fearing, pragmatic and the change seeking independent presidential aspirants of the December 2012 elections, Jacob Osei Yeboah (JOY 2012).
Jacob Osei Yeboah, popularly known as JOY 2012, is a voice of change and a symbol of political conscience in Ghana’s political dispensation. He was born about 43 years ago in Kumasi.
He had his elementary education at the Yaa Asantewaa LA primary school in Kumasi and latter continued at Opoku Ware International School now Opoku Ware High School where he studied science. His sportsmanship saw him play Hockey for the school team, a javelin thrower and a triple jumper.
JOY later completed the Kumasi Science and Technology now Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a first degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering where his outstanding contributions to JCR meetings of Katanga Hall were imbibed by fellow Katangees as astute and discerning Christian leader. He also holds an MBA from Warwick University, UK with Masters in Global Supply Chain Management from Mannheim University, Germany.
He had his National Service training at Anglogold Ashanti Company (AGC) in Obuasi and was employed in the same company in November 1995 and within eight months he became a director of AGC in June 1996. His period saw a review of the company’s procedures and processes that led to a very significant transformation and cost reduction from USD320/Ounce to USD178/ounce (Jan2001-June 2002) and he was the special projects Coordinator, having practiced as instrumentation Superintendant of the processing plant.
He later became the West African manager of a South African procurement and logistic company, Shareholding International, for 4 years. In 2006, he set up his own company, Vitalsource Limited. The company provides Engineering and other support service to the mining companies in Ghana and the sub region.
While with Vitalsource, JOY set up Mbutou Mining Service, a mining and consultancy services, in 2010 to help assist small scale mining firms technically and financially.
Currently he works with Vitalsource but believes that his call on earth has not been fully fulfilled. His vocation is human centred and believes in equitable sharing of life’s opportunities.
He is married with four children. He is an engineer, entrepreneur, strategist, philanthropists, a social thinker and a transformational leader.
Jacob co-founded United Movement for change, UMC in April 2010, an association to bring about real change in Ghana, sensing the dangerous pose by political parties to lives, properties and businesses.
He was awarded by the Lay Movement of the Methodist Church, Ghana in 2009 during the laity 60th Anniversary for his sterling leadership to the youth and again was awarded by the Accra dioceses of the Methodist Church in 2009 during the Diocese’s 60th Anniversary for exceptional leadership and contribution to the Diocese.
His political mission is to ensure that the life and property of Ghanaians go beyond 2012.
JOY wants to demonstrate leadership skills so politicians all across the African continent can learn from him. According to him, given the chance to lead this country, he will prove to Ghanaians and the entire world that neither the country nor its people are poor but rather it is its leaders that have poor vision.
To ascertain his point, all JOY’s positions held in the past and services and duties have been rendered to his maximum ability resulting in several promotions and recommendations and commendations.
The presidential hopeful lamented over the current educational system in the country saying that he has missed the once quality education that the nation had. “Even though I came from a low-middle income family I was able to get quality education which is now a dream of many”.
“The education system at the time gave equal opportunities to everyone but same cannot be said for now,” he continued.
He was unhappy that currently poor families had to face heart breaking challenges just to send their children to school, adding that education has been priced well above the reach of the poor, resulting in youths who are “visionless and cannot think for themselves”.
He assured the youth of today that what they need is quality education and any leader that fails to educate its people sufficiently is not worth its salt.
JOY reminded politicians that standing on platforms and shouting insults no means defines politics but rather providing solutions to the numerous challenges of citizens and citizens demanding for the right things to be done and deciding who leads the country.
He was sad that some politicians in this country particularly those in government see themselves as gods and try to gag others from speaking their minds.
JOY believes he has a strong leadership skills and character in him and is well prepared to take the mantle and become the next president of this nation providing the needed directions and decisions to move Ghana forward.
He was the president of the Ghana Methodist Student Union from 1992, at his handing over ceremony he urged Christians not be sit on the bench but to get up and fight for their rights and get themselves involve in the political dispensation and contribute their quota because “it takes the silence of a few good men for evil to prevail”
He observed that during the 1992 elections he vigorously campaigned against Prof. Kwabena Darko because he was full of insults but was disappointed some years later when the NDC failed to fulfil its promises. He then joined the Young executive wing of the NPP to campaign against the NDC in the 2000 presidential elections.
He stressed that he does do politics of complaining but politics of conviction, one that will ensure that the society is well developed.
He is convinced that the only means of ensuring peace and better development in the country is to vote neither of the two main political parties into office during this year’s general election “Ghana must awake other than that, the politicians will continue to take Ghanaians for granted”
According to him, the only means to unite the country is through an Independent Presidential System (IPS) and he stands tall among all the candidates, adding that IPS is not an individual but rather a form of unity system that will unite the polarized and ethnically country. “The country cannot afford to go the way of other African countries with regards to conflicts”
JOY 2012 is therefore calling for the introduction of concept of an independent minded Ghanaians to participate in the various political leadership levels with an independent presidential candidature as the apex of the governing system within Ghana and Africa as a whole.
JOY believes political party should elect members for the legislative arm of government while independent presidential government system is a more credible alternative to Ghana and Africa’s untested democratic construct that forge social cohesion towards accelerated development.
According to him, he will be able to work with all the political parties to forge a way forward.
He is convinced that he has about 72% chance of winning the December general elections and this conviction is based on a survey conducted by a reliable institution in Ghana early this year. According to him the survey indicated that 72% of the respondents said they will vote for an independent presidential candidate, adding that those in higher authority gagged the institution and prevented the information from coming out.
JOY says his mission is not being finance by any political party or body, but from the business society who are fed up with the current dispensation and wants assurance of better political environment to do their business.
He is of the view that, as a nation, the country has not strategized to take advantage of the possibilities that its neighbouring francophone countries provide. “We could have an arrangement for an exchange programme where teachers in Ghana would teach English in these French speaking countries and vice versa”
He therefore called for the creation of two new ministries- Ministry of Education and Industry to provide a link between the country’s educational system to industry; And the Ministry of Trade and Economies instead of trade and industry, adding that the current systems does not auger well for the nation.
He says there are people in the Diaspora and even within the country who are willing to work for the nation but the nature of Ghana’s politics and political dispensation prevent them from doing so.
So who said a Christian cannot engage in the governance of a nation and still maintain his integrity? Check out aspirant Jacob Osei Yeboah with his sweeping JOY 2012 NEXT PRESIDENT OF GHANA campaign.
