Nestle Ghana Limited has commenced the third edition of one of its flagship programmes dubbed “The Nido Nutrition Day”. This forms part of activities to mark its 60 years anniversary celebrations in Ghana.
The 2017 edition commenced last Saturday at the Sowa Din Memorial School complex near Ashale Botwe in Accra.
The programme seeks to educate mothers and caregivers on the importance of good nutrition through series of talks, drama and games under the strong supervision and endorsement of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the School Health Education Programme (SHEP) in basic schools.
It forms part of the commitments of Nestlé Ghana to contributing to healthier lives for individuals and families. According to Nestle Ghana, similar public education events on nutrition have been planned to for various basic schools across the country.
The event saw over 200 mothers and caregivers anxiously trooping to the grounds for information. Some of them eventually won scholarships for their wards by participating in a nutrition quiz. One lucky parent- Paulina Akakpo, took away Ghc 500 as scholarship for her ward.
Last year, through the Nido Nutrition Day programmes, the brand was able to engage with over 8,000 mothers from selected schools across the country. The programme has been designed to reach over 30,000 people this year.
Mr. Edwin Amoako
Category Manager for Dairy at Nestlé Ghana Ltd, Mr. Edwin Amoako told journalists that through the programme, Nido is seeking to “educate, engage and entertain mothers while introducing them to the benefits of good nutrition. Nido as a brand is synonymous with enhancing the quality of lives across the world, and in Ghana specifically, this is one of the things we do to break down education about nutrition to the lowest level so that anybody at all can understand what nutrition is and how it can affect the future of their children”.
