AGRA President named among 100 Most Reputable Africans of 2020

The President of AGRA, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, has been named by Reputation Poll International as
among the “100 Most Reputable Africans of 2020”.

The 2020 list of 100 Most Reputable Africans features 47 women and 53 men from diverse sectors
including Leadership, Entertainment, Advocacy, Education and Business. Other leaders named on
the list include Dr. Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary, United Nations Economic Commission for
Africa from Cameroon and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed.

Dr. Kalibata joined AGRA as its President in September 2014. She leads the organization’s efforts
with public and private partners to ensure a food secure and prosperous Africa through rapid,
inclusive, sustainable agricultural growth, improving the productivity and livelihoods of millions of
smallholder farmers in Africa.

Dr. Kalibata said she was “thrilled to be included among this list of African changemakers. My
inclusion in this list is due in large part to the excellence of the team and partners I have around me
who believe strongly that change can and will come to African agriculture.”

Under Dr. Kalibata’s leadership, AGRA is working to increase the incomes and improve food
security for 30 million farming households in 11 African countries by 2021 through targeted
investments to strengthen three core areas: Support to institutional capacity and a stronger policy
reform environment; Stronger input delivery systems in agriculture: and Growing public/private
partnerships for inclusive agricultural growth.

Established in 2006, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is an African-led and
Africa-based institution that puts smallholder farmers at the center of the continent’s growing
economies by transforming agriculture from a solitary struggle to survive, into farming as a business
that thrives. Together with our partners, we strive to catalyze and sustain inclusive agriculture
transformation to increase the incomes and improve food security for 30 million farming households
in 11 African countries by 2021.

AGRA provides downstream delivery support for the Partnership for Inclusive Agricultural
Transformation in Africa (PIATA) with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the
Rockefeller Foundation, The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development
(BMZ), the UK Department for International Development (DFID), and the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID).

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) has expressed frustration over the challenges faced in securing electricity for schools across the country. During their 62nd Annual Conference, held in Tamale from October 7 to 11, CHASS voiced concerns about the impact of prepaid electricity meters on their operations. In a statement, CHASS highlighted that the use of Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) prepaid meters in schools is worsening the financial strain on headteachers. CHASS is extremely surprised as to why its members should be burdened with the responsibility of pre-financing the supply of electricity for classrooms, libraries, dormitories, dining halls, laboratories, and other academic purposes," the statement read. CHASS called for the government's immediate intervention, urging the shift from prepaid to postpaid meters to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
