MTN wins big at CIMG Awards 2021

This year’s Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) National Marketing Performance Awards was all about MTN Ghana, as it scooped the three most coveted awards of the night.

It was the 32nd edition of the awards, and MTN Ghana retained its CIMG Hall of Fame Award for the second consecutive year.

Additionally, MTN Ghana CEO, Selorm Adadevoh was adjudged Marketing Man of the year 2020. Selorm was not around to receive his award as he was in the US delivering a keynote on “Dare to Dream” at the 28th Wharton Africa Business Forum at University of Pennsylvania on the same night of the awards event.

The opening paragraph of the citation for the award read, “A marketing corporate executive, an astute administrator and an achiever are what many see you to be; and these accolades were not lost on our team of assessors who could not agree more, thus this crowning moment. You led a company that is dedicated to lead in the delivery of a bold new digital experience for your customers, and you have succeeded in wowing them by making their lives a whole lot better.”

Meanwhile, the CEO of MTN MobileMoney Limited, Eli Hini and walked away with the prestigious Marketing Practitioner of the Year 2020. Eli was present to receive his award.

His citation read in part “Your exceptional qualities and acumen as an achiever saw your mother company create an SBU (strategic business unit) over which you were superintended as the CEO. Indeed, you have justified the trust reposed in you and have successfully turned the unit into a treasure pot. Your role as the Chief Officer of this multinational has become so significant that you have undoubtedly become the brain behind the company’s stellar rise.”

Indeed, the SBU the citation referred to is MTN MobileMoney Limited, which is now a company on its own, with Eli Hini as the CEO, reporting directly to headquarters in South Africa. Eli has been here from day one when mobile was first launched in Ghana, and has carried it from a non-profitable venture for six year to the ubiquitous and pervasive giant  it is today.
