Kosmos Innovation Centre opens office in Tamale

A foundation that supports young people in agribusiness, Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) has inaugurated an office and incubation hub in Tamale to expand its operations and empower the youth in the area.

With funding support from the Ghana Market Systems and Resilience (MSR) Activity, a USAID-funded programme under the Feed the Future Initiative, the incubation hub is furnished with conference hall, washroom and other auxillary facilities.

It is expected to build the capacity and coach young people and entrepreneurs in the northern part of the country to start up their own ventures.

Inauguration

Inaugurating the facility, the Chief Executive Officer of the KIC, Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, said the inauguration of the new office was in line with the organisation’s vision to expand its operation across the country.

He said the centre was committed to transforming the agriculture value chain by equipping the youth with ready market skills that would empower them economically to contribute to the development of the country.

He indicated that the new hub would give much attention to agriculture and its value chain activities to help promote food security and create jobs for the teaming unemployed youth.

Job creation

For his part, the Board Chairman of the KIC, Joe Mensah, said “we are going to sharpen the skills of the youth and whip up their interest to take up agriculture as a business, this will create employment avenues for the people”.

While thanking the MSR Activity for the support, he urged the chiefs and people of the area to support the centre to enable it serve its intended purpose.

Commendation

The Northern Regional Minister, Shani Alhassan, lauded the KIC and its partners for the initiative and said it would go a long way to empower the youth and women in the agriculture value chain.

He urged the youth to take advantage of the opportunity created by the KIC to become economically viable.

He said unemployment remained the main challenge of many countries and expressed optimism that the centre would go a long way to help address the menace.
