Energy Minister to join discussants at FAGRO 2013 show

Ghana’s Energy and Petroleum Minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has accepted the invitation to be part of the key personalities who have been selected as discussants of the 5th National Food Agric show to be held this week at the Efua Sutherland Park.

The Minister expressed interest in joining the discussants looking at the recent states of agriculture impact to the country’s economy and more importantly with the involvement of topic such as whether ‘Oil and Gas replacing the contribution of Agriculture to Ghana’s gross domestic product (GDP)?

His intention to join FAGRO 2013 show is to assure the farming communities in Ghana the importance of Agriculture and how Ghana cannot progress without agriculture. Despite agriculture contribution to the GDP is falling, the Minister believes agricultural is the backbone to Ghana’s economy and there is no way oil and gas can overtake agriculture.
Other topics will include ‘creating the right investment environment for Ghanaian Agriculture – The Role of Women; and accessing funds for agriculture trade and export,’ and the show will be under the theme: the ‘Linking, Trade Export and Agriculture: a value chain process.’
Apart from the Energy and Petroleum Minister, other experts who are expected to grace the occasion are Alicia Blasco (Brazilian Embassy Head of Trade and Commerce at the Brazilian Embassy), Lydia Sasu (Rural Women Association President), Dr. Mary Opoku-Asiamah, Director at the Women in Agricultural Development with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture will all take turns to address pertinent issues facing agriculture in the country.
“The objective of this year’s FAGRO is to bring together all those related with the agric sector under one roof to provide global and comprehensive information on current developments in the agric sector.”

Meanwhile, the organizers of the event have said that arrangements are far advance for the commencement of FAGRO 2013. The programme starts from October 24th to 28th, 2013 at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra.

FAGRO Exhibition Director, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa has said that the show will witness a general exhibition of local and international agricultural companies in manufacturing, poultry and poultry equipment, seeds and seedlings, aqua culture, feeding equipment, packaging and processing technology, Irrigation systems, financial institutions among others.

The special highlight for this year is the Field demonstration on Irrigation and Green house by Israeli Company, Netafim and Dizenkoff Ghana Limited.

“With our partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, it is worthy to note that, all the directorates under the ministry of agriculture will be fully represented at the fair grounds to showcase their works, opportunities and contributions to the nation.” She added.
