Mobile lines on the rise

More Ghanaians are using mobile phones in the country. The number of registered mobile lines now stands above the population of the country.

According to the National Communications Authority (NCA), the regulator of the telecom industry, the number of mobile lines in Ghana is 27.51 million at the end of August, this year. This indicates that mobile voice telephone subscribers in Ghana have seen a growth of 1.25%, as compare to the August 2012 figure of 24.44 million. The country’s population stands at 25.9 million.

The telecom companies which contributed to this increase were Mobile Telecommunication Network (MTN), Vodafone, Tigo, Airtel, Glo and Expresso, Expresso is the only CDMA network in Ghana.
MTN Ghana has consistently maintained the number one position as the market leader in the mobile telecom industry. Its subscriber lines went up to 12.74 million, representing percentage growth rate of 1.16%.
Vodafone Ghana, which recently rebranded it logo, subscriber base of 4.90 million in August 2012 increased to 5.83 million this year, representing 1.19% percentage growth while Tigo’s subscriber base shot up to 3.79 million representing 1.03% percentage growth rate.
Airtel has mobile lines of 3.37 million, representing 1.11% percentage growth. Glo mobile recorded a percentage growth rate of 1.01%, from last year figure of 1.61 million to 1.63 million recorded in August 2013.
Expresso on the other hand, recorded negative 0.87 percentage growth from the 178,799 last year to August 2013 figure of 156,293.
On mobile market share status, MTN Ghana commands the lead market share with 46.31% of total mobile lines 27,511,659 in Ghana.
Vodafone Ghana is the second largest mobile operator in Ghana, with market share of 21.21% of total mobile lines. Milicom Ghana, the operators of Tigo mobile had a market share of 13.76%, while Airtel market share was 12.24% of the total lines.
Glo mobile also had a market share of 5.92% while Expresso figure still stands at 0.57% of the total mobile market share in the country.

EB-ACCION DISBURSES US$15 MILLION

By Fred SARPONG Ecobank-Accion (EB-Accion), a partnership between Ecobank Ghana Limited and Accion International has disbursed amount to the tune of $15 million to over 36,000 borrowers in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector in the country, since the institution was set up barely six months ago. Amantin & Kasei Community Bank posts impressive growth, with over GH¢1m profit

 Amantin and Kasei Community Bank, at Amantin in the Bono East Region has posted impressive growth in all the performance indicators during 2022 financial year under review. The bank recorded profit after tax of GH¢1,055,662, representing 35.66% more over the 2021 figure of GH¢778.151. This achievement stemmed out of 49.24% gross income growth from GH¢8,143,526 to GH¢12,153,537. Total deposits of the bank went up by 36.20%, changing from GH¢50,959,848 in 2021 to GH¢69,405,591 in 2022. The bank increased loans and advances by 22.15% from GH¢14,128,017 to GH¢17,257,614. Total assets showed an appreciation of 29.32%, amounting to GH¢77,918,288 as against GH¢60,250,693 in the previous year.
