British Airways slashes fares to US$74

British Airways is offering a limited number of very special discount fares for its Ghanaian passengers in celebration of the launch of the 747 aircraft. The airline has reduced its fair to US$74, excluding taxes, for a return trip.
Passengers wishing to take advantage of the discount fares can book now but flights are schedule for the beginning of the April.

Moran Birger, British Airways commercial manager for Ghana says the “astonishing” US$74 fare is in line with the airline’s promise to “keep exciting our Ghanaian customers”.
British Airways is increasing capacity to Ghana by over 1 000 seats a week, just six months after it upped its schedule between London and Accra from seven to 10 services a week.
From the end of March it will start operating Boeing 747-400s on the route, replacing the smaller Boeing 777s. The 747-400 is able to accommodate 337 customers in a four-cabin configuration – First, Club World, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller.
Birger, says when the summer schedule starts on 30 March, the Boeing 747-400s will be the largest commercial aircraft operating out of Accra.
“We adjust our schedules and capacity to reflect demand and this is another example of just that. More seats also mean more choice and flexibility to our customers.”
Currently British Airways operates ten weekly flights out of Accra; three using Boeing 767 aircraft departing at 08:10 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and the remainder departing at night every day, which would be on the 747 aircraft.
Elsewhere on the continent, the airline is adding more flights and growing its schedule in East Africa.
In Uganda it will increase services to Entebbe from three to four a week from the end of March and is amending the schedule to provide better connections to international destinations such as North America.
At the same time it is also replacing the Boeing 777s on the daily service between London and Nairobi with Boeing 747-400s, adding over 780 seats a week.
In early March it upped capacity to South Africa when it introduced six weekly A380 services as part of its double daily schedule to Johannesburg. In May, it will grow its daily summer schedule to Cape Town from daily to 10 a week.

The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
