Okyehene urges stakeholders in education sector to up invest in science and technology


The Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has urged stakeholders in the educational sector to massively invest in science and technology to enable the youth across the country to compete with their counterpart at the global level.

We are living in an era where innovation, science and technology is making tremendous impact as well as rapidly changing the lives of people and countries in their socio-economic endeavors” he said.

According to him, the country can create a conducive environment through science and technology where every child can seek knowledge to add value to the mind to unearth the God given talents bestowed upon the child.


He said quality education can turn the fortunes of the child and the country around when education is well enhanced and curricula is periodically updated to meet world class standards  and pointed out that this can be achieved when the country put in place pragmatic measures to adequately pay  qualified teachers in science and technology.

Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin was speaking at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) graduate practitioner’s forum 2021 in Accra under the theme “Business Restructuring, Revamping strategies for business crises aimed at impacting knowledge to graduating students through first-hand experience from seasoned speakers.

He however challenged the students to be critical thinkers and create new ideas and be innovative in every working endeavors saying the market is highly competitive in the global space therefore they must apply talent to opportunity.

The Okyehene, also the guest speaker for the forum called on government to create a conducive environment and incentives to support the private sector and make available credit and capital as startups for young entrepreneurs in the business space.

Touching on the Covid-19, he said the pandemic have taken lives and impacted negatively on global economies as Africa’s fiscal deficit have raised from 4.7% of GDP in 2019 to 8.7% in 2020 and however commended government for the swift intervention in managing the pandemic.


On the environment, he said the country have witnessed massive destruction of the forests as a result of galamsey and its  effects on pollution of water bodies and described the activities as very worrying and called for stakeholders to collectively address the menace .

Throwing more light on corruption, he said those found culpable be punished for their selfish and evil acts, adding that people who steal from the coffers of government cannot claim success because their bank account is stained with the blood of the poor and again advised students to develop and sustain a practice of self-discipline and eschew moral decadence and urged them to embrace their education with cutting edge skills.

The Managing Director (MD) of the Intercity STC Coaches Limited, Nana Akomea said the company have introduced new innovations under his leadership and have helped address challenges making the company more of a vibrant entity and advised students to always start every venture at the bottom and progress gradually to the top.

For his part, the Vice Chancellor of UPSA Prof. Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey said the forum have challenged students to excel in every working endeavor and called on all to engage the institution with a fruitful support.
