aYo, Lions Club others fete Dodowa residents this Christmas

 Leading microinsurance company, aYo Intermediaries Ghana Limited (aYo Ghana) in collaboration with Lions Club, DrugNet and SoffLife provided food, clothing, medicines and health screening worth thousands of Ghana cedis to residents of Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District as part of their CSR activities this Christmas.

This was at a ceremony held at the Dodowa Presbyterian School Park, which attracted over 300 aged and young persons who benefitted from the donations and health screening.

aYo provided each of the beneficiaries with hot meals and assorted drinks; DrugNet provided medicines worth over GHS40,000; SoftLife took care of the health screening, which include blood pressure, blood sugar and temperature checks with medical advice, and Lions provided used clothes and shoes.

District Governor of District 418 - Ghana for Lions Club International, Lion Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, said Lions Club does humanitarian activities for the needy every month, and for December the focus is "hunger", so they chose to provide food for the aged mainly, and while at it they decided to add health screening, medicines and used clothes.

According to her, Lions Club's help for the needy focuses on eight main areas, and each one is tackled in a particular month as follows:
• September - Childhood Cancer
• October - Vision (sight)
• November - Diabetes
• December and January - Hunger (because those are the dry times for the needy)
• February - Childhood Cancer again
• March - other humanitarian activities such as disaster relief, renovation projects etc.

She said some of the humanitarian activities the Club has undertaken this year include provision of relief items to the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage, renovation of Senche Health Centre which was gutted by fire, and provision of books to basic schools a several deprived areas and provision of water boreholes to various needy communities.

Lion Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan said this year, Lions Club also got sponsorship and did eye surgeries for 100 persons with cataract, adding that those who benefitted from the surgeries and health screening are often referred to hospitals in their communities to ensure that the management and treatment of their cases are sustained.

In that respect, the beneficiaries of the health screening who need further attention were referred to the Shai-Osudoku District Hospital at Dodowa.

She said Lions Club does these activities at both the district and club levels to ensure that they cover several needy persons in many communities.

In a related development, aYo Ghana has donated a laptop computer and a projector to the only community school at Vume–Kpoviadzi in the Volta Region to support ICT teaching and learning in the area.

CEO of aYo Ghana, Francis Gota personally presented the items, which were received by a pupil of the school, in the presence of the headteacher and some leaders of the community.

Francis Gota said “aYo believes in technology and thus its products and services leverages greatly on Technology heavily”. He is therefore hopeful that the tool donated would empower the young ones in their studies and enable them develop careers in technology.

Residents of the community were excited about the kind gesture of aYo, which promises to go a long way in aiding teaching and learning of ICT and other subjects in the community school.
