Hope Beyond Amputation: Valeria Adzatia's Journey Into MTN Heroes Of Change Awards

Valeria Adzatia, an amputee, has transformed her life-changing experience into a mission to uplift others. As the visionary founder of Smiles of Hope Organization, she spearheads initiatives that provide emotional rehabilitation and economic empowerment for amputees, showcasing her unwavering dedication to creating positive change.

This remarkable work has earned her a prestigious nomination for the MTN Heroes of Change award, recognizing her tireless efforts to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

When I was seven years old, I lost a part of my body, but that didn't define me. I knew I had to make a difference in the lives of others like me."

The Project
Smiles of Hope Organization offers peer counseling, support groups, and skills training programs to help amputees regain confidence and independence. The project has positively impacted over 1,000 amputees, providing emotional support, economic empowerment, and legal assistance.

Valeria's organization has established partnerships with prominent hospitals, including Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Tema General Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and 37 Military Hospital. They have also acquired a dedicated office space to enhance operations and service delivery.

Impact
The project has had a significant impact on the lives of amputees. Over 300 individuals have benefited from peer counseling, while more than 700 have participated in support groups. Additionally, over 40 individuals have been trained in skills such as detergent making, bead crafting, and agribusiness. 60 people, including caregivers of amputees, have received assistance.

Challenges
Despite the success, Valeria faces challenges, including limited funding, relying on a single donor, and insufficient resources to train more amputees and extend services to other regions. Her small team is managing a high caseload, making it difficult to collaborate effectively with other facilities.

Future Plans
Valeria plans to expand medical outreach programs beyond the Greater Accra region and provide mobility aids to amputees. She aims to extend services to other regions across Ghana, making a broader impact on the lives of amputees.

Testimonials
Charlotte Ansah, a beneficiary, says, "She has really helped me... I now have a sound mind to go on excursions as well." Miss Becky, another beneficiary, adds, "Mz Vee (Valeria Adzatia) has greatly helped my husband's health... He now knows how to bandage his leg and perform exercises."

Nomination
Valeria Adzatia has been nominated for the MTN Heroes of Change award, recognizing her outstanding work in supporting amputees. This nomination highlights the significance of her contributions and serves as an inspiration to others who are working towards creating a more inclusive society.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining firm Engineers & Planners (E&P) has acquired Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, taking full control of the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region. The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
