Yapra Rural Bank PLC at Prang in the Bono East Region has constructed and handed over a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities to the Prang D/A No. 1 Primary School, offering long-awaited relief to pupils who for years studied in a deteriorating structure.
The GH¢390,000 project replaces a dilapidated block that previously housed lower primary classes and had long been deemed unsafe. The school, established in 1947 and currently enrolling 273 pupils, is expected to see significant improvements in safety and teaching conditions following the upgrade.
The commissioning of the new facility coincided with the 40th anniversary celebration of Yapra Rural Bank. Addressing the gathering, the Board Chairman, Baabotin Terah Musah, said the intervention underscores the bank’s belief that its mandate extends beyond financial intermediation to meaningful contributions to community development. He highlighted the bank’s longstanding support for education through scholarships, school supplies and other social investments.
In our 40 years of rural banking excellence, we seek to make an even greater impact in the decades ahead,” he said, adding that the bank would continue to expand financial services to underserved communities through its financial-inclusion agenda.
The Bono East Regional Director of Education, Nana Kugbeadzor-Bakateyi II, in a speech read on his behalf, commended the bank for the timely intervention, stressing that infrastructure remained one of the region’s most pressing challenges. He called on corporate organisations, NGOs and philanthropists to emulate the gesture, noting that quality education thrives on broad community support.
The District Chief Executive for Pru West, Samuel Agyapong, also praised the bank and assured that the Assembly would urgently provide furniture to complement the new classroom block.
Yapra Rural Bank has grown from a single branch in Prang to eight branches and a mobilisation centre across the Bono East and Savannah regions. As of October 2025, it serves 50,290 customers and employs 130 staff. The bank reported total assets of GH¢95.21 million and deposits of GH¢86.33 million as of December 2024, reflecting steady growth amid economic pressures on rural financial institutions.
As part of its 40th anniversary outlook, Yapra Rural Bank announced plans to deepen financial inclusion, expand agricultural financing and scale up digital banking services, building on four decades of partnership with rural communities.
The new classroom block, officials said, stands as both a practical response to a pressing local need and a symbol of the bank’s enduring commitment to the communities that shaped its origins.
