The redevelopment of the old horse racing; the Accra race course, into a mixed user complex to include a five star hotel, office building, apartment suit and a shopping mall will soon commence.
A support agreement between Ghana, Cascade Development Company Limited and Gold Coast Resorts International Limited to give the project full governmental backing was approved by Parliament last week.
The mixed user complex is expected to augment the present stock of hotel accommodation in the country and help attract more tourists as the project is designed to turn the AICC area into a complete convention centre of international standards.
To this effect CDC has obtained a sublease covering the race course from the Ghana Tourist Board to redevelop the complex on the 14.16 acre land. The company has also relocated the race course to Ashaley Botwe, a suburb of Accra, off the motorway, at its own expense as well as undertaken demolition exercise to prepare the site for the commencement of the construction of the complex.
