Toyota Ghana has renovated and furnished the Junior High School block of the Nyame Tease D/A Basic School in Tarkwa with student’s desks.
The objective, which was to provide a facilitating and comfortable learning environment for the children, was also part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility as it is interested in improving the lives of the people in the communities within which it operates.
Expressing his appreciation, the Head Teacher of the school, Oslo Quayson, commended Toyota Ghana for the kind, timely and thoughtful gesture. He said the classrooms were in a very deplorable state; the floors were bad, the desks were insufficient and ventilation was very poor. He added that “by this gesture, I strongly believe that it will enhance effective teaching and learning in the school”. He also thanked the community for supporting the project.
The Managing Director of Toyota Ghana, Takahiko Takabayashi, in his speech restated that, Toyota Ghana always strives to better the conditions in the communities within its locality. He said when Toyota Ghana first opened its branch in Tarkwa; it renovated the Wassa West District Library and stocked it with books. “Furthermore, we offered scholarships to the earnest users of the library for two continuous years. Currently, the library is doing quite well and more children are patronizing it now. We believe our objective there has been met”.
According to Takabayashi, that accomplishment informed the decision to undertake another such project in the education sector. He indicated that Toyota Ghana intends embarking on a comprehensive project in the school and that this refurbishment and desks donation is only the first of three phases.
The District Director of Education, Kyere Boateng, in his delivery reiterated the District’s gratitude for this worthy initiative. He commented that the renovation works undertaken by Toyota Ghana will not only provide an atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning but also improve the quality of life of the students and also attract more children to the school.
Also present at the handing over ceremony were a delegation led by the representative of Osagyefo Dr. Kwamina Enimil, Paramount Chief of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Nana Kwesi Appiah, Chief of the Nyametease village and his entourage, parents, teachers and head teachers of neighboring schools and members of the community.
The Chiefs who were present at the function pledged to donate eight computers, a stand-by generator and textbooks for the lower primary with a promise of scholarship scheme for twenty pupils should their BECE results improve.
