United Bank for Africa (UBA) last week celebrated African Union’s African Day across its operations on the continent.
In Ghana staff wore traditional attires depicting the true value of African culture. May 25 every year has been set aside as Africa Day in commemoration of the establishment of the Organisation of African Union (OAU) in 1963 except in Tanzania which has May 21st as its African Day.
The objective of this celebration is to celebrate the achievements of African people and businesses that have brought pride to the continent, and inspire Africans globally to strive daily for distinction through ethics and diligence.
According to a press statement from the bank, “The broad objectives of the Africa Day still hold true for us as an institution as we commit ourselves to the African continent. In line with our vision to become a leading financial institution in Africa, we have expanded our reach into 19 African countries namely Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Iviore, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Liberia, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Benin, Senegal, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania, Chad, Gabon, Guinea, Mozambique, Congo DRC and Congo Brazzaville. The list keeps growing as we aspire to become the dominant Pan-African financial service institution.”
“We have elected to celebrate Africa across the group through employee
engagement activities so that as a bank we all celebrate our African
heritage in a united and colourful manner representing the vision of
unity that drove the creation of the AU, as well as the colours of our
continent,” it further stated.
The bank has celebrated the Africa day in the last two years and is committed
to making May 25 every year an annual celebration.
