UBA Ghana Limited has donated 2000 Ghana Education Service recommended literature books to 10 schools in the bank’s areas of operation across the country. This forms part of the UBA Group’s Read Africa Initiative which involves the provision of recommended literature books for students in junior and senior secondary schools in Africa.
Recognizing the challenge of reading amongst young people particularly due to the distractions of digital entertainment, TV and mobile phones, UBA embarked on the initiative to rekindle reading habit amongst young people across the continent.
Edgal, MD/CEO, UBA Ghana in presenting the books to the schools challenged the students to take their reading very seriously. He stated that “bridging the gap between the Diaspora and Africa will only occur through the adoption of a comprehensive reading culture so as to be abreast with happenings in the world.
He counseled that “as students your future will be determined and shaped by the quality of books your read today. I therefore urge you to pay serious attention to reading so as to broaden your horizon for a brighter future”.
Edgal also paid glowing tribute to teachers for their immeasurable contribution to the development of the leaders of tomorrow and urged them not to relent in their efforts.
