ASA Savings and Loans supports Adiebeba M/A Basic II with furniture and books

The Ahodwo Business Centre of ASA Savings and Loans in Kumasi has donated furniture and learning materials to the Adiebeba M/A Basic II School in the Ashanti Region as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

The items included 40 dual desks, three sets of teachers’ tables and chairs, and 250 exercise books, all aimed at improving teaching and learning in the school.

The donation comes as a major relief to the school, which has long faced challenges with inadequate classroom furniture. Established in 2000, the school has a student population of about 300. For years, the lack of desks forced many pupils to share seats in congested classrooms, hampering effective teaching and learning.

At a brief handing-over ceremony, MD, Khalilur Rahaman, Operations Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, said the gesture formed part of the company’s contribution towards improving the standard of education in Ghana. “This is our little way of giving back to society, which continues to support our business and sustain our operations,” he stated.

The CSR/Sustainability Officer of ASA Savings and Loans, Lily Opoku Mensah, noted that the support was not a one-off intervention, explaining that ASA would continue to assist deprived schools across the country.

She also disclosed that the institution had already planted over 3,100 tree seedlings across the northern belt as part of its afforestation project to restore depleted forest cover and help mitigate the impact of climate change.

Receiving the items, the Head Teacher of Adiebeba M/A Basic II, Mary Owusu Sekyere, expressed gratitude to ASA for the timely support. She said the donation would ease the school’s furniture shortage and improve the learning environment for pupils. She appealed to other corporate institutions and philanthropists to emulate ASA’s example to help promote quality education in the country.

With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
