MTN Ghana Kicks Off 2025 Sustainability Week With Call For Collective Action

MTN Ghana has launched its 2025 Sustainability Week, reaffirming its long-term commitment to driving impactful, responsible and inclusive growth through collective action.

This year’s theme, ‘Sustainability, Our Collective Responsibility — Driving Impact, Deepening Commitment, reinforces the importance of individual and institutional effort in achieving lasting progress.

In her welcome remarks at the launch at the MTN House in Accra, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, emphasized that sustainability remains central to MTN’s business strategy and operations. She said, “This initiative is a continuation of MTN’s mission to integrate Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles into every aspect of our work. We must challenge ourselves to do more, embrace responsible business practices, innovate with respect for the environment and build partnerships that deliver genuine impact”.

She also highlighted the symbolic timing of the launch, which coincided with the opening of the COP30 conference in Brazil, linking MTN’s local efforts to the global sustainability agenda.

MTN Ghana CEO, Stephen Blewett, also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building a sustainability-driven culture, highlighting significant progress across MTN’s key sustainability pillars: At MTN Ghana, we remain firmly committed to building a sustainability-driven culture anchored on our four key pillars: Doing for People, Doing for Planet, Doing it Right and Doing for Growth. Our focus on inclusion continues to yield results, with women now representing more than 40% of our workforce, a milestone that reflects our dedication to gender equity and empowerment”.

In line with our eco-responsibility agenda under the Doing for Planet pillar, we are relentlessly pursuing our Project Zero ambition to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040. We have already transitioned MTN House and our data centres to solar power, begun greening our fleet, and encouraged suppliers to set carbon-reduction targets, resulting in meaningful energy-cost savings”, he added.

Representing the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, Cedric Dzelu, Technical Director at the Ministry, commended MTN Ghana for institutionalizing sustainability as a strategic imperative. “Sustainability is no longer a CSR add-on; it is a business survival strategy,” he stated, adding that “the Ministry seeks to collaborate with the private sector to embed sustainable practices across industries and promote green innovation as a national development priority.”

To show its commitment to inclusion, MTN Ghana donated two electric wheelchairs to staff members who are differently abled, Selina Kwakye and Jonathan Agbesi-Botchway.

MTN Ghana is dedicated to fostering a sustainable future and enhancing the well-being of society. In celebrating Sustainability Week, the company aims to raise awareness about environmental and social issues, inspire positive change, and reinforce its commitment to sustainable development.
