New GIPC Bill to simplify TTA registration process

MTN Ghana posts GH₵5.5bn profit in nine months

  Scancom PLC (MTN Ghana) has reported a strong financial performance for the first nine months of 2025, with profit after tax rising by 45.9 percent year-on-year to GH₵5.5 billion. This was driven by continued growth in data and Mobile Money services and sustained investments in network expansion. According to the company’s financial statement released on Tuesday, service revenue grew by 36.3 percent to GH₵17.3 billion, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 41.6 percent to GH₵10.2 billion, achieving a margin of 58.4 percent. Banking sector profit jumps 46% within first eight months of 2025

 Ghana’s banking industry maintained strong profitability in the first eight months of 2025, with profit-after-tax rising by 46.1% to GH¢9.7 billion, compared to GH¢6.7 billion recorded during the same period in 2024. According to the September 2025 Monetary Policy Report, the sector posted gains across all income lines, with other income surging 47.3% in August 2025, reversing a 2.9% contraction recorded a year earlier. Net interest income rose 21.8% to GH¢19.2 billion, up from GH¢16.9 billion in August 2024, driven by a slowdown in interest expenses due to lower interbank lending rates. On a year-on-year basis, interest income increased 21.5% to GH¢29.3 billion, while interest expenses climbed to GH¢10.2 billion from GH¢8.4 billion, representing 20.9% growth — slightly below the 22.1% growth in August 2024. Banks wrote off GH¢1.05bn as bad debt in 8 months of 2025

  Banks wrote off GH¢1.05 billion as bad debt in the first eight months of 2025, about a 46% decline over the same period in 2024. This was in the form of loan losses, depreciation, among others. During the same period in 2024, the Bank of Ghana wrote off GH¢1.95 billion as bad debt. According to the Domestic Money Banks Income Statement for August 2025, interest expenses were estimated at GH¢10.11 billion, about 20.9% increase over the same period in 2024. The Bank of Ghana disclosed that the banking industry’s asset quality improved in August 2025 relative to August 2024, although credit risk remains elevated. The improvement in asset quality was broad-based with a decrease in non-performing loans (NPLs) in all economic sectors.  Children at the Atatem D/A Basic School are unknowingly consuming water laced with toxic chemicals, a new study by the Rights of Nature Ghana Movement (RoNAG) and KNUST scientists has revealed. The research shows arsenic, chromium, and lead levels hundreds of times above WHO safety limits, tracing the contamination to illegal mining activities encroaching on the school’s land and nearby rivers. Galamsey’s Proximity Sparks Concern RoNAG initiated the study following observations during a Rights of Nature sensitization workshop in June 2025. Togo tops Ghana’s informal trade; food and drinks dominate – GSS survey

  Togo ranked as Ghana’s largest informal trading partner, accounting for almost GH¢1.8 billion of informal cross-border trade in the fourth quarter of 2024. This is according to new data from the Ghana Statistical Service. The data comes from Ghana’s first national Informal Cross-Border Trade (ICBT) Survey, which tracked unrecorded trade between Ghana and its three land neighbours – Togo, Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. The report shows that Togo recorded the highest volume of informal trade with Ghana, representing 61.2% of all informal trade activity between the two countries. However, Ghana recorded a trade deficit with Togo, meaning it imported more than it exported. Cooking oil was identified as the main imported product from both Togo and Côte d’Ivoire, while soft drinks were the top informal export from Ghana to Togo. Producer Price Inflation rises slightly to 3.2% in September

 The year-on-year producer price inflation (PPI) for all goods and services stood at 3.2% in September 2025, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). This represents a 0.2 percentage point increase from the 3.0% recorded in August 2025, but a sharp decline of 27.3 percentage points compared to September 2024, when producer inflation was significantly higher. On a month-on-month basis, producer prices rose by 0.9% between August and September 2025, meaning that on average, producers received 0.9% more for their goods and services than they did the previous month. The Mining and Quarrying sector — which carries the largest weight in the PPI basket (43.7%) — saw a marginal increase in its inflation rate from 4.9% in August to 5.0% in September. Similarly, Manufacturing, which accounts for 35% of the PPI weights, recorded a modest uptick from 1.6% to 1.7% over the same period.
