Apex Body of Women in Poultry Value Chain Donates Crates of Eggs to New Life Children's Home

 The Apex Body of Women in Poultry Value Chain (WIPVaC) has presented 70 crates of eggs to the New Life Children's Home in Nungua, Accra, to mark World Egg Day. The home, which cares for over 92 children, as well as disabled and aged individuals, expressed gratitude for the support.

Every year we celebrate World Egg Day. Today is equally a special one for us," said Florence Doku, Acting Greater Accra Regional President for WIPVaC. "Egg is protein in nature, it contains a lot of vitamins and nutrients... It's small in nature, but it contains a lot of things, all the vitamins that we need."

The donation is part of WIPVaC's efforts to promote egg consumption and support vulnerable communities. "I will entreat everyone to eat an egg a day," Doku encouraged.

Receiving the donation, the New Life Children Home's founder, Otinnor Mantse, Nii Afotey Botwe II, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying, "It's going to help us in a long way because you have a lot of children... We are grateful to them for what they have done."

He commended the President Mahama for his Nkoko Nkitikiti programme, saying it will contribute in providing jobs for the youth also boost the consumption of eggs in the country.

In advising the youth, the Home's founder emphasized the importance of promoting Ghanaian culture and supporting local economy. "Ghanaians should be Ghanaians. We should not try to change our culture... Let's take advantage and work as a family, as a team, as a people of Ghana to develop our own country."

The New Life Children's Home currently faces challenges, including completing a girls' dormitory project due to financial constraints. Nii Afotey Botwe II, appealed for support, stating, "We need building materials like cement, iron rods, and floor tiles."

This donation highlights the importance of partnerships and support for vulnerable communities, particularly in the context of Ghana's poultry industry, which has seen significant growth and potential for economic empowerment, especially for women and youth.

Impact of the Donation

The donation of 70 crates of eggs will go a long way in supporting the nutritional needs of the children and adults at the New Life Children's Home. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, vitamins, and minerals essential for growth and development.

WIPVaC's World Egg Day Celebrations

WIPVaC's World Egg Day celebrations went beyond the donation to the New Life Children's Home. The organization also visited 37 military hospitals, where they shared eggs and educated patients on the importance of egg consumption for health and nutrition.

Florence Doku, said, "We had the opportunity to visit 37 military hospitals, where we went from ward to ward to share and talk to them about the importance of the egg"

The organization's efforts to promote egg consumption and support vulnerable communities are commendable and highlight the potential for partnerships and collaborations in the poultry industry.
