The Council of Ewe Associations of North America (CEANA) has successfully concluded its 32nd Annual Convention, held from August 28 to September 1, 2025, at the Sheraton DFW Airport Hotel in Dallas, Texas. The event, themed "Our Health, Our Wealth," brought together Ewe communities from across the globe to celebrate culture, unity, and purpose.
The convention featured a series of cultural exhibitions, keynote addresses, and fundraising activities, all aimed at mobilizing support for the development of Eweland. Dr. Kenneth Afenya, a nephrologist and Medical Director at Lex Kidney Care, delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the importance of healthcare and social determinants in shaping community well-being.
A highlight of the convention was the Second Grand Durbar of Chiefs and Queen Mothers, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Ewe people. The Ewe Association of Greater Boston emerged as the winner of the Associations' Challenge, raising significant funds for CEANA's development projects.
The convention also saw the election of new executives, with William Kumah taking over as President of CEANA. The outgoing President, Dr. Tsatsu Nyamadi, reflected on the organization's achievements and urged the new leadership to continue working towards the development of Eweland. CEANA has been involved in various development projects, including the construction of a Kindergarten building in Dodome-Awuaisu, Ghana, and a Computer Library in Kpalime, Togo. The organization has also awarded over 500 scholarships to students in Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
The CEANA 2025 Convention concluded with a renewed sense of unity and purpose, with attendees committing to continue supporting the development of Eweland. As the organization looks to the future, it is expected that the new leadership will build on the successes of the past and work towards achieving even greater heights. With the official transfer of the mandate to host the 2026 Convention to the Ewe Association of Washington, D.C., Metro Area Inc., all eyes are on the next year's event, which promises to be even more impactful.
