The Ghana National Eggs Campaign Secretariat (GNECS) has taken a significant step to promote the consumption of eggs among Ghanaians, particularly in the healthcare sector. On World Egg Day, the organization educated patients and visitors at 37 military hospitals in Accra about the nutritional value of eggs.
Eggs are packed with unmatched nutrients," said Comfort Acheampong, National Coordinator of GNECS. "We urge Ghanaians to regularly consume eggs as part of a balanced diet to improve their health and well-being."

To drive home the importance of eggs, GNECS, with support from the Apex Body of Women in Poultry Value Chain, shared over 1000 cooked eggs to patients and visitors at the military hospital. The team moved from ward to ward, including the Out Patient Department, distributing the cooked eggs and sharing valuable information on the benefits of egg consumption.
The Mighty Egg
The theme for this year's World Egg Day celebration was "Mighty Egg: Packed with Natural Nutrients."
The Chief Dietician at the 37 Hospital, Hamdaratu Dauda Wumbei, reiterated that eggs are indeed a nutrient-dense food that provides a range of essential vitamins and minerals. "They are an excellent source of protein, vitamin D, and choline, making them a great addition to a healthy diet".

Promoting Egg Consumption
GNECS's efforts to promote egg consumption are part of a broader initiative to improve public health and nutrition in Ghana. By educating people about the benefits of eggs, the organization aims to increase demand for eggs and support the local poultry industry.
We believe that eggs are a simple and affordable way to improve health and nutrition," Acheampong added. "We have seen firsthand the impact that eggs can have on people's lives," she said. "We are committed to promoting egg consumption and supporting the local poultry industry."
