Richeal Adom, a community health nurse, has dedicated her life to caring for children with disabilities in Cape Coast- Ghana. Her selfless work has transformed the lives of numerous children and their families, earning her a nomination for the MTN Heroes of Change initiative.
As Adom explains, "I firmly believe in nurturing every child's potential. Seeing children with disabilities thrive and enjoy life is what motivates me to continue my work." Her personal experience with her son's diagnosis with spinal bifida further fueled her passion to support children with disabilities.
Her project, the Challenged Children Foundation, provides comprehensive care, safe shelter, food, clothing, and support to children with disabilities. Adom's husband and a team of volunteers assist her in caring for the children. The foundation relies on Adom's salary and occasional support from family and friends to fund its activities.
According to Reverend Noah Yaw Adunkwaa, a community leader, "Richeal was sent by God to help these children. She compassionately cares for the physically challenged and vulnerable, treating them with kindness and respect."
Reverend Adunkwaa notes that Adom's project has had a profound impact on the community, providing support to parents and caregivers of children with disabilities.
One beneficiary, Grace Adobea, shares her heartfelt gratitude: "Auntie Richeal and her family have accepted me and my daughter as one of their own, providing us with the care and support we need to thrive." Grace's daughter, Blessing, was born without legs, and Adom took them in, providing medical care, food, and shelter.
Abraham Obeng, the nominator, praises Adom's dedication: "What she and her husband are accomplishing, with support from virtually no one else, is truly remarkable and nothing short of extraordinary." Obeng notes that Adom's selflessness has inspired him to be more compassionate and supportive of others.

Adom's work has not gone unnoticed, and she has received recognition from the community for her tireless efforts. Despite the challenges she faces, Adom remains committed to her mission, and her story serves as a testament to the profound impact one person can have on their community.
As Adom looks to the future, she plans to expand her project, providing more comprehensive care and support to children with disabilities. She hopes to build a dedicated physiotherapy center and provide vocational training and educational opportunities for the children and their caregivers.
Through her selfless work, Adom is changing lives and inspiring others to make a difference. Her story is a reminder that everyone has the power to create positive change in their community, and that even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact.
