MIIF Outlook Sees AI Investment Surge Driving Global Growth, Ghana Poised to Benefit in 2026

The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) has projected a significant rise in global investment in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in 2026, led by major economies and top technology firms, as competition intensifies to dominate next-generation digital innovation.

In its Economic and Market Outlook and Strategic Investment Orientation for 2026, MIIF notes that escalating rivalry between the United States and China—coupled with fierce competition among global cloud service providers to deploy more advanced AI-driven applications—is expected to boost productivity and accelerate infrastructure spending worldwide.

According to the Fund, this wave of AI-led investment could act as a catalyst for global economic expansion, presenting opportunities for emerging economies such as Ghana to harness growth momentum to support poverty reduction and broader development.

The report further projects that Ghana’s economic growth will strengthen in 2026, underpinned by increased government spending and a more accommodative interest rate environment.

Inflation is expected to continue easing in the early part of the year but could edge higher later on as base effects fade,” the report stated.

On commodities, MIIF highlighted that gold and silver entered 2026 with strong fundamentals, supported by favourable demand-supply dynamics and bullish price outlooks. Oil prices, however, are expected to remain relatively softer amid ample global supply.

The Fund also observed that the surplus in the global lithium market is likely to narrow as both demand and supply expand, reflecting growing activity in energy transition technologies.

In financial markets, MIIF forecasts continued positive performance in equities, driven by declining interest rates and improved corporate earnings linked to AI-induced productivity gains.

Interest rates on short-dated Ghanaian Treasury instruments are projected to decline to around the 10 per cent level as policy easing continues in an environment of moderated inflationary pressures,” the report added.

The full report, Economic and Market Outlook and Strategic Investment Orientation 2026, provides a detailed assessment of global and domestic trends shaping investment decisions in the year ahead.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining firm Engineers & Planners (E&P) has acquired Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, taking full control of the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region. The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
