Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, has been named Fintech CEO of the Year at the Global Leadership Gathering Million Dollar Challenge Awards, marking a major milestone for Ghana’s fast-growing fintech sector.
The award recognises Shaibu’s leadership during what industry observers describe as a turning-point year for Ghana’s fintech ecosystem. In 2025, MobileMoney LTD successfully transitioned millions of customers onto advanced digital financial services, including mobile payments and digital lending, while recording notable progress in the fight against digital fraud.
Key initiatives such as the MomoTrust campaign and the public awareness drive “Shine Your Eye” were credited with strengthening consumer confidence and improving fraud prevention across the mobile money ecosystem.

Shaibu, who was appointed CEO of MobileMoney LTD in 2022, brings more than 25 years of commercial experience across Africa and the Middle East. His career spans multiple sectors, including Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), automotive, financial services, e-commerce, and telecommunications, with the last 18 years focused on telecoms and digital services. He has led major business transformation and turnaround programmes in Ghana, Uganda, South Africa, and Saudi Arabia.
Speaking after receiving the award, Shaibu congratulated fellow finalists from Zambia and Rwanda, who placed second and third runner-up respectively, and dedicated the honour to his team and partners.
This recognition belongs to the entire MobileMoney LTD team and our stakeholders who continue to believe in innovation, trust, and customer protection. Together, we are building a safer and more inclusive digital financial ecosystem for Ghana,” Shaibu said.
The Global Leadership Gathering Million Dollar Challenge Awards celebrate executives and organisations driving innovation, growth, and impact across emerging and global markets.
