GoldBod suspends gold buying licence applications amid regulatory reforms

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of new applications for selected gold buying licences as part of planned reforms to strengthen Ghana’s gold trading system.

In a press release dated February 16, 2026, GoldBod said the suspension affects applications for Tier 1 and Tier 2 buying licences, as well as the Self-Financing Aggregator Licence, with immediate effect.

GoldBod explained that the move forms part of a broader strategy to modernise and improve the country’s gold-buying framework.

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced the immediate suspension of applications for specific categories of gold buying licences as part of a strategic reform process aimed at strengthening and modernising Ghana’s gold buying regime,” the statement said.

However, the GoldBod clarified that the Aggregator Licence will remain open for new applications during the suspension period.

GoldBod also assured stakeholders that applications already submitted before the announcement would still be processed.

GoldBod wishes to assure all stakeholders that applications already submitted prior to this announcement will continue to be processed,” it said.

According to the Board, the reforms are intended to enhance transparency, strengthen compliance, and improve traceability within Ghana’s gold trading sector while ensuring greater national benefit from the country’s gold resources.

GoldBod added that further details on the revised licensing framework and reform measures would be announced in due course.
