  Ghana has secured a major victory in an international tax dispute with Tullow Ghana Limited after an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitral tribunal upheld a US$393.09 million tax assessment issued by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The tribunal, sitting under the ICC Rules of Arbitration, dismissed Tullow's claims and upheld the GRA's assessment of US$393,091,993.70, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance. The award, delivered on September 29, 2026, also found that the tax assessment did not breach the petroleum agreements governing Tullow's operations in Ghana.   Suma Community Bank Plc, based at Suma-Ahenkro in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, nearly doubled profit before tax in 2025 as stronger deposits, loan growth, recoveries and cost controls boosted its earnings. A deliberate mining-led industrialisation strategy could turn this purchasing power into factories, skilled jobs, tax revenues, foreign-exchange savings and a new export industry serving West Africa. Every mine is also a major industrial consumer. It buys chemicals, machinery, pipes, valves, wear parts, processing materials and engineering services. Yet many of these inputs ultimately originate from factories thousands of kilometres away. This represents one of Ghana's greatest untapped industrial opportunities.   A coalition of civil society organisations working with Ghana’s fisheries and coastal communities has called on the government to urgently review offshore gold exploration activities along the country’s western continental shelf. In an open letter dated September 28, 2026, and addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, the organisations said they did not oppose responsible investment or the lawful use of Ghana’s natural resources.   The government will make adequate provision in the 2027 Budget for the construction of grain silos as Ghana seeks to improve storage capacity and reduce post-harvest losses, Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku has disclosed. Opoku said Ghana produced about 4.6 million tonnes of maize last year, against estimated national demand of 3.6 million tonnes, resulting in a surplus of approximately one million tonnes. He said the growing surplus made it necessary to expand the country’s grain storage infrastructure to ensure that increased agricultural production did not result in losses for farmers.   Domestic travellers continue to account for the vast majority of guests using accommodation facilities in Ghana, but foreign visitors generally stay longer, highlighting an opportunity to increase tourism revenue by encouraging longer visits. This is contained in the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) Accommodation Unit Survey, covering the period from November 2024 to February 2025. The survey found that domestic guests significantly outnumbered foreign visitors at accommodation establishments during the four-month period. Monthly numbers of domestic guests ranged from about 1.87 million to 2.17 million, compared with fewer than 40,000 foreign guests per month. Despite the significant difference in volume, foreign visitors generally recorded longer stays than domestic guests, particularly at hotels. President John Dramani Mahama says the government plans to sign an agreement before the end of 2026 to develop a 1,200-megawatt (MW) state-owned gas-fired thermal power plant as part of efforts to expand Ghana’s electricity generation capacity. The proposed facility would have the largest installed generation capacity of any single power plant in Ghana if completed at the stated capacity.  The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has supplied approximately 950,000 barrels of Sankofa crude oil to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), strengthening the link between Ghana’s upstream petroleum production and domestic refining. The crude was delivered aboard the Sonangol Cazenga and received by TOR under a commercial arrangement between the two state-owned institutions. The transaction was marked by an inspection of the vessel by a team jointly led by GNPC Chief Executive Kwame Ntow Amoah and TOR Managing Director Edmond Kombat.
