Suma Community Bank posts 95% profit growth on strong deposit, loan expansion

Suma Community BankSuma Community Bank Plc, based at Suma-Ahenkro in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region, nearly doubled profit before tax in 2025 as stronger deposits, loan growth, recoveries and cost controls boosted its earnings.

Profit before tax rose 94.7% to GH¢9.26 million in 2025, from GH¢4.75 million a year earlier, while profit after tax increased 88.3% to GH¢6.45 million from GH¢3.43 million.

Total assets expanded 51% to GH¢149.14 million, while customer deposits climbed 54% to GH¢130.34 million. Loans and advances rose 66% to GH¢29.85 million, reflecting increased lending during the period.

Investment securities increased 13.8% to GH¢70.70 million from GH¢62.14 million, while liquid assets rose to GH¢105.71 million from GH¢72.21 million.

Shareholders’ funds increased 83.9% to GH¢12.84 million from GH¢6.98 million. Total stated capital stood at GH¢2.38 million as of December 2025.

The bank maintained a Capital Adequacy Ratio of 21.55%, above the regulatory minimum of 10%, despite the expansion of its balance sheet.

The Board Chairman, Kwasi Afram, announced the results at the bank’s 40th annual general meeting held at Suma-Ahenkro.

The board has proposed a GH¢2 million bonus issue, to be funded from retained earnings, as part of efforts to strengthen the lender’s capital base. The proposal is subject to approval by the Bank of Ghana and other relevant regulators.

The proposed bonus issue is part of the Board’s strategy to strengthen the Bank’s capital base and position it for sustainable growth under the community banking framework,” the Board Chairman stated.

The move comes as Suma Rural Bank Plc transitions to Suma Community Bank Plc under the Bank of Ghana’s revised framework for rural and community banks, which requires a minimum capital of GH¢5 million.

The Chief Executive Officer, Kofi Acheampong, said the bank plans to build its capital base toward GH¢10 million and beyond, while expanding deposits, growing quality loans, improving recoveries and investing in digital banking.

The bank also plans to relocate its Brodi Agency to Nsawkaw, the capital of the Tain District, to expand access to banking services and capture additional business in the area.

On corporate social responsibility, Suma Community Bank spent GH¢95,571 in 2025 on donations and community-support initiatives covering education, health and community development.

The CEO said the bank will focus on sustainable deposit mobilisation, quality loan growth, cost management, digital transformation and stronger internal controls as it completes its transition to the community banking model.
