Bank of Ghana data shows that in June 2026 alone, Ghanaians made 954 million mobile-money transactions worth GH¢492.9 billion, up from GH¢323.2 billion in the same month a year earlier. Yet only 37% of Ghanaian businesses accept or use digital payments at all, according to a 2024 census of 1.9 million businesses by the Ghana Statistical Service, ISSER and ReFinD . The rails are built. The question now is what businesses can do with them. That gap is not just about adoption. The 2024 census found that where businesses do take digital payments, the use of a proper merchant account is associated with stronger revenue growth, higher employment and greater formalization.
