A new platform dedicated to discovering and celebrating creative talent among Ghanaian tertiary students has taken centre stage, with the maiden edition of the NESCAFÉ Campus Groove: My Coffee, My Vibe competition delivering an exciting showcase of music and dance.
The initiative, organised by NESCAFÉ, brought together talented students from tertiary institutions across the country, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities before a live audience and an experienced panel of judges.
Following a series of auditions and elimination rounds, 18 contestants made it to the final stage of the competition. The finalists were evenly divided between the two categories, with nine competing as singers and another nine battling for honours in dance.
The competition intensified as the finalists went through two rounds of performances designed to test their creativity, stage presence and ability to connect with audiences.
At the end of the first round, eight contestants remained in contention for the ultimate honours, with four singers and four dancers progressing to the decisive stage.
The performances were assessed by a distinguished judging panel comprising DanceGod Lloyd, one of the influential personalities in Ghana’s contemporary dance movement; award-winning singer Adina Thembi; and award-winning rapper Strongman, a former music competition winner.
The singing category produced a series of powerful performances, with contestants displaying vocal ability, confidence and stagecraft. The dancers also impressed with energetic routines, creativity, technical precision and commanding performances.
Speaking at the finale, Category Development Manager for NESCAFÉ, Lily Boatema Ntim, explained that the initiative was designed to respond to the aspirations of young consumers beyond the traditional product experience.
Young consumers want more than just a product experience when you come on campus. They want to have an impact, they want platforms where they can express themselves, and they want to connect with their passions. And that is what NESCAFÉ is offering.”
The night ended with Joshuanda being crowned winner of the singing category after an impressive series of performances.
Joshuanda received a cash prize of *GH₵30,000* together with NESCAFÉ products. Kweku Winna finished as runner-up and took home *GH₵10,000, while This Kid placed third and received **GH₵5,000*.
Beyond the prizes, the maiden edition of NESCAFÉ Campus Groove provided a platform for young creatives to gain exposure, compete at a national level and demonstrate their potential.
The initiative also reinforces the growing importance of platforms that allow young Ghanaian creatives to express themselves while connecting with their passions.
With the strong performances recorded during its inaugural edition, NESCAFÉ Campus Groove has laid the foundation for a platform that could play a significant role in identifying and nurturing the country’s next generation of music and dance talents.
