Amantin & Kasei Community Bank boosts lending 54% as profit rises to GH¢9.3m

 Amantin & Kasei, Community Bank

Amantin and Kasei Community Bank PLC increased lending by more than half in 2025 as higher advances and income helped the bank navigate a challenging economic environment and deliver a modest rise in profit.

Advances surged 54.2 percent to GH¢66.29 million, from GH¢42.99 million a year earlier, while total assets expanded 7.33 percent to GH¢180.22 million. Deposits also grew 7 percent to GH¢158.46 million, reflecting increased customer funding for the bank’s operations.

The growth in lending contributed to a 22.33 percent increase in gross income to GH¢36.48 million, although profitability grew at a slower pace. Profit before tax rose 6.54 percent to GH¢9.33 million, from GH¢8.75 million in 2024, while profit after tax increased 2.76 percent to GH¢6.16 million.

The Board Chairman, Richard Owusu Afriyie, who disclosed the results at the bank’s 21st annual general meeting held at Amantin in the Bono East Region, said the performance demonstrated the institution’s resilience despite challenging economic conditions.

The bank’s investment portfolio, however, declined 14.22 percent to GH¢65.22 million, which Mr Afriyie attributed to the sharp decline in yields on government securities, including Treasury bills.

The Bank has proposed a GH¢1.54 million dividend for 2025, up from GH¢1.49 million in 2024, subject to Bank of Ghana approval. The dividend, equivalent to GH¢0.37 per ordinary share, will not be paid in cash but capitalised into stated capital, with equivalent shares issued to shareholders.

The capitalisation forms part of efforts to strengthen the bank’s capital position as the Bank of Ghana raises the minimum capital requirement for Community Banks to GH¢5 million. The bank’s stated capital increased 6.93 percent to GH¢1.65 million in 2025 following the issuance of 214,190 ordinary shares.

The Acting Managing Director of ARB Apex Bank, Curtis William-Brantuo, in a speech for him described the dividend capitalisation as a prudent measure that would allow shareholders to benefit while strengthening the bank’s capital base.

He, however, urged the Bank to improve liquidity management after its liquid assets-to-total-assets ratio fell to 56.88 percent, from 70.06 percent in 2024.

William-Brantuo called for stronger deposit mobilisation, asset-liability management and liquidity stress-testing to ensure loan expansion is backed by stable funding and adequate liquidity buffers.

Meanwhile, the Bank invested GH¢86,505 in community development during the year, including support for the Kasei mechanised borehole, Chorkosi Line Road and Bresuano Community School Pavilion projects.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, Michael Wilberforce Osae, said it would intensify credit delivery, deposit mobilisation and short-term investments to boost income and sustain growth.

He added that the Bank would raise additional capital through share issuance, with transfers from reserves considered as a last resort to meet the revised capital requirement.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
