World Bank approves US$40 million to strengthen GSS and the national statistical system

The Government of Ghana is to recieve a total of US$40 million from the World Bank to provide technical and financial support for implementation of the Ghana Statistics Development Plan (GSDP), with a focus on the improvement of statistical service delivery by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) and nine Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The project will be financed from a US$30m International Development Associations (IDA) Credit and a US$10m Statistics for Results Facility Catalytic Fund (SRF-CF) Grant.

The target beneficiaries of the project are all users and producers of statistics on Ghana. These include the Ghana Statistical Service; relevant MDAs; policy makers and planners; Parliament; civil society organizations; the private sector; and the international community including development partners; and ultimately the general public.

The project’s overall objective is to strengthen the National Statistical System (NSS) in the production and dissemination of timely and robust statistics relevant for evidence-based policy-making and other uses. This will be measured by; User satisfaction with statistical products and services of the NSS; Statistical capacity score of Ghana (using the World Bank Statistical Capacity Indicator scores) Proportion of censuses and surveys implemented by NSS as per the long term census and survey plan; and Time between end of data collection and release of main report for household surveys.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs).
