MobileMoney CEO Urges Mobile Money Agents to Serve as ‘Chief Efficiency Officers’ of Their Businesses

Accra, Ghana, November 13, 2025. Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, Shaibu Haruna, has called on Mobile Money Agents across the country to see themselves not just as business operators, but as “Chief Efficiency Officers”, trusted leaders driving excellence, integrity, and impact in their communities.

Speaking at the Mobile Money Advocacy Group, Ghana (MoMAG) Capacity Building Workshop held at the University of Ghana Business School, Mr. Haruna delivered a thought-provoking address on “Leadership Efficiency for Mobile Money Agents,” emphasizing that agents play a critical role in advancing digital financial inclusion and empowering communities.

He highlighted that Mobile Money Agents are community leaders, trusted custodians of customer funds, and business leaders who provide essential financial services that enable individuals, businesses, and communities to thrive.

You are not just doing a transactional job, you are enabling lives and livelihoods. You are community leaders, trusted with people’s hard-earned money, and the information you share shapes decisions and confidence in our ecosystem,” he stated.

Haruna underscored that effective leadership requires agents to combine clear vision, customer centricity, integrity, collaboration, and continuous learning to build sustainable businesses.

Haruna further stressed the need for leadership effectiveness and operational efficiency to co-exist for business sustainability.

Let’s go back to our communities not just as Mobile Money Agents, but as CEOs — leading with excellence, precision, and agility. Be the Chief Efficiency Officer of your business and a model of trusted leadership,” he concluded.

The capacity-building workshop covered a broad range of subjects crucial for modern mobile money operations, including: Strengthening leadership and operational efficiency, preventing fraud and robbery in the line of duty, Understanding the role of banks and financial partners, preparing for financial security and retirement, enhancing record-keeping and financial literacy, fulfilling tax obligations as responsible business operators and partners

The sessions were facilitated by experts from the Ghana Police Service, Bank of Ghana, Deloitte Ghana, and Universal Merchant Bank (UMB), providing participants with practical insights and tools to enhance their operations and business resilience.

The training brought together over 200 mobile money agents from across Ghana for a day of learning, engagement, and skill development.

MoMAG presented two citations, one to the MobileMoney LTD CEO and one to MTN Ghana, in recognition of their significant support and commitment to the agent network.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
