MTN's MobileMoney Reassures Customers of Platform's Safety

 


MobileMoney LTD (MoMo) has addressed concerns over social media claims suggesting that MTN systems have been compromised due to a cybersecurity incident.

In a statement released on May 5, 2025, MoMo clarified that these claims are "completely misleading, untrue and, in some instances, potentially mischievous."

We assure all our valued customers that the cybersecurity incident has not impacted on the operation or security of our mobile money systems. No customers have lost any of their money as a result of the cybersecurity incident; our mobile money platform remains safe and secure, and customer funds are protected."

Robust Security Measures
MoMo emphasized its commitment to security, highlighting the use of industry-leading measures such as end-to-end encryption, multi-factor authentication, and ongoing monitoring to detect and prevent fraudulent activity.

According to the statement, the company collaborates closely with regulatory authorities, cybersecurity experts, and partner institutions to uphold the highest safety standards.

Customer Vigilance
MoMo urges customers to remain vigilant and avoid disclosing sensitive information, such as passwords, PINs, and OTPs, via phone, text, messages, or emails.

Customers can contact MTN's toll-free customer care number at 100 for assistance. MoMo reassures customers that their funds are protected and that the mobile money platform remains safe and secure.

The company also encouraged customers to rely on official channels for authentic and accurate information.

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs
