MTN Ghana Foundation Recognized as Top Corporate Blood Donor

The MTN Ghana Foundation has been awarded the top spot as the No. 1 Corporate Institution in Ghana for donating 6,620 units of blood during its annual "Save a Life" campaign.

This achievement was recognized during the World Blood Donor Day celebrations by the National Blood Bank Service.

The "Save a Life" Campaign

Launched in 2011, the campaign aims to address Ghana's critical blood shortages by mobilizing voluntary blood donations. To date, the initiative has collected over 35,620 units of blood, significantly contributing to the National Blood Service's efforts.

The campaign's success is attributed to the collaboration between MTN Ghana Foundation, its employees, partners, and the general public.

Ghana faces significant challenges in meeting its blood transfusion needs, with a blood collection index of 5.8 per 1,000 population, far below the World Health Organization's recommended minimum of 10 units per 1,000 people. The MTN Ghana Foundation's efforts have helped bridge this gap, ensuring a steady supply of life-saving blood for patients in need.

Recognition and Commitment

The National Blood Service has commended MTN Ghana Foundation for its commitment to replenishing the country's blood reserves. Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer at MTN Ghana, expressed excitement about surpassing the target and appreciated all donors, healthcare partners, and volunteers who contributed to the initiative.

By prioritizing healthcare and community development, MTN Ghana Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact in Ghana, solidifying its position as a leader in corporate social responsibility.
