Ghana to get Condominium law

The Ghana Housing Finance Association is collaborating with the Ministry of Water Resources, Works and Housing to have a law on Condominium property in the country.

Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, E.T Mensah, disclosing this at the meet-the-press series organized by the Ministry of Information in Accra, noted that the ministry is collaborating with its stakeholders to speed up the process to have the legislation enacted into law as soon as possible.

E.T Mensah said the ministry has constituted a committee comprising all relevant agencies to revise the country’s building regulations with the aim to provide the country with a building code that will conform to current international best practices and standards.

Answering a question posed to him on the current state of the Rent Control Department, he said he has set up a committee to go through the proposed rent law which will enhance the country’s rental structure.
“The new law will also be investor friendly to attract more people to build for renting purposes,” he noted.

For the period under review, the department received 13,603 complaints out of which 2, 875 have been disposed of with 10, 728 outstanding.

The existence of the department has actually contributed tremendously to reducing the social tension that exists within the rent sub-sector in the country, he pointed out.

Tender Committee recommends E&P for Damang Mine lease transfer

  A Tender Committee has recommended the grant of the mining lease for the Damang Gold Mine to Engineers and Planners Limited, following a competitive evaluation process conducted by the Minerals Commission. The recommendation comes after a tender process initiated under Regulation 258 of the Minerals and Mining (Licensing Regulations), 2012 (LI 2176), aimed at selecting a strategic investor to take over the mining lease and operations of the Damang mine. According to the report, four companies responded to the public tender announced in the media. Out of these, two firms were shortlisted by the Mineral Titles Department of the Minerals Commission and subsequently submitted to the Tender Committee for detailed assessment.
