British Airways promotes its US routes

By Kofi Ahovi
British Airways is promoting its USA routes to remind its customers, including potentials ones, of the unique connections it offers from UK to the USA as well as other destinations.

Passengers from Ghana travelling to the USA or other destinations are treated to a world class service before, on board and after using British Airways flights.

British Airways is one of the world's largest international airlines carrying approximately 36 million passengers around the world every year. It operates nine flights a day from New York JFK to London. This includes seven to London Heathrow and two flights to London City on a business class only service. This is in addition to the two daily Newark to London Heathrow flights.

Terminal 7 is home to BA’s operations at New York JFK airport as well as other airlines. It spans 535,000 square feet, serving five million departing and arriving passengers per year.

In addition to handling its own flights British Airways also offers a range of servicing and handling facilities within the terminal for other carriers such as ANA, Iberia, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Icelandair and US Airways.

Within the check-in area, customers can choose to check in at one of the dedicated check-in desks, at a self-service kiosk or go straight to security if they have checked in online and have no baggage.

Customers in Club World and First can relax and get ready before their journey in upgraded check-in seating areas. Gold glass wall panels, new carpeting and new overhead lighting introduce the Galleries lounge concept to the check-in area, offering customers a familiar touch. American walnut coffee tables and a wall-to-wall credenza offer a place for last minute travel preparations or to sit and relax before travelling through security.

A new artpiece, located at First check-in, called “It’s the small things in life that make the big things so great” was commissioned exclusively for British Airways. Designed by Acrylicize and artist Ria Dastidar, the piece celebrates the culture and unique characteristics of New York and London.

Departing customers have freedom to choose how they spend their time as Terminal 7 offers a variety of places to shop, dine and relax.

There are three British Airways lounges within JFK Terminal 7: The Concorde Room, The Galleries First Lounge and the Galleries Club Lounge. These have been modelled on the British Airways Galleries complex at London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 and offer a variety of services including: Business facilities: wireless internet access, computers and printer facilities Access to the Quintessentially concierge service A variety of soft drinks, hot drinks, alcoholic beverages and snacks and High Definition LCD televisions.

British Airways’ is offered special discounts on its premium products this summer season and stated that this was just a taste of things to come, as it prepares to celebrate 75 years of operations to Ghana this month.
The airline announced fares for Club World (Business Class) seats starting from $1,686 and First (First Class) seats from $3,449, excluding taxes and other charges, representing savings of as much as $550 on tickets to London and Europe. The offer also extended to popular destinations in the USA, with savings of over $1,000 on Club World seats and 20% discounts in the First Cabin on some routes.

“Our customers are at the heart of what we do and these offers are one of the ways we demonstrate that,” says James Wooldridge, British Airways’ Commercial Manager for Ghana. British Airways is the only airline offering a First class service to Ghana and with benefits such as the comfort of a personal onboard suite, traditional afternoon tea, formal dining on white linen with fine bone china, mood lighting in the cabin, and access to the exquisite Concorde Room airport lounge, the service is proving popular.
Wooldridge is also optimistic about the prospects for their partner airline, Iberia, which launches its Ghana operation in July. “Iberia is extremely popular in Europe and the Americas, so our customers looking for more exotic holiday destinations will have some great choices.

Iberia, the Spanish national carrier, merged with British Airways in January 2011 to the International Airline Group. British Airways’ Ghana office will be responsible for local operations. Iberia will operate twice a week between Accra and Madrid, with Economy and Business Class Cabins on an Airbus A319 aircraft.
British Airways is a full service global airline with a worldwide route network that covers more than 150 destinations in 75 countries. British Airways operates from Terminal 5 at London Heathrow. The state-of-the-art Terminal 5 is exclusive to the airline's customers and is capable of handling 30 million customers a year.
