Govt to use E-levy to borrow more to build road sector -Road minister


The Roads Minister, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah,  has hinted that the government intends to securitize the Electronic Transactions levy (E-levy) to raise in more money which will be used to transform the road sector. 

The government in its wisdom has proposed the passage of the E-levy to bring in more revenue to build the road infrastructure for all of us. So government is looking forward to the passage of the E-levy that would bring in greater revenue that would be securitized to raise a bond to build the road sector infrastructure. So government direction and government policy is to bring in a better form of correction because the toll revenue is build in the proposed E-levy, that is why government is determined to ensure that it is brought to being "

The Roads Minister Kwasi Amoako-Attah, was answering questions on the Floor of Parliament, on Friday March 4, 2022.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has described the proposed E-Levy as an innovative fiscal measure which will help equitably improve the country’s tax collection.

I believe strongly that it is in the public interest that it should be enacted into law. We cannot continue to live forever on foreign savings. Those who are concerned about our debt burden are right to focus on it as a major pre-occupation,” he said.

The Government of Ghana proposes to impose a 1.75% tax on all a variety of electronic transactions, including mobile money transfers exceeding GH¢100.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay
