Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative Commends Ghana’s Continued Commitment to a Sustainable Cocoa Economy

The Côte d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI) has congratulated the government of Ghana on the official opening of its 2025/2026 cocoa season and the announcement of a new producer price of $5,040 per ton, a record level that reflects a sustained commitment to the welfare of cocoa farmers.

The CIGCI commended the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for this bold step, which is an essential contribution to creating a more equitable and sustainable global cocoa market. The Initiative also applauded the government's commitment to upholding its promise to cocoa farmers and strengthening the foundation for a fairer and more resilient cocoa economy.

Unprecedented Cooperation

The CIGCI highlights the unprecedented cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana, representing over 60% of global cocoa production, in aligning policies on farmgate pricing, market transparency, and value distribution. This cooperation reflects a shared vision of transformation in the cocoa sector, rooted in fairness and profitability for all, especially cocoa farmers.

Quote from Executive Secretary

A fair price to farmers is the first milestone to achieve a sustainable cocoa sector." - Alex Assanvo, Executive Secretary, CIGCI.

The CIGCI is working with partners and stakeholders to make cocoa the world's first truly sustainable commodity, environmentally sound, economically viable, and socially just. The transformation of the cocoa sector can only be achieved if it is rooted in fairness and profitability for all, especially cocoa farmers, without whom there would be no cocoa and no chocolate.
