Newmont Gold Ghana Limited has successfully held the graduation ceremony for 15 trainees who have completed their three years underground graduate learnership programme at the Ahafo Mine.
All the 15 graduands have been regularized and will be
working as employees of the Ahafo South Mine.
The programme is designed for graduates with Earth Science
or other engineering disciplines. 50% of graduates are from the local communities
who joined the programme after graduating with disciplines in Survey, Geology
and Mining Engineering. The remaining 50% where recruited nationally.
The three-year programme is structured to equip the trainees
with competencies and appreciation of how systems work in an underground mining
environment and build their capacities to perform high-level engineering work
in various disciplines.
The programme has enabled the graduates acquire on -the-job
skills in Survey, Geology, Ventilation, Drill and Blast, Scheduling and Geotech.
In addition, all of them have started their Mincom certification process.
