Asanko Gold Ghana signs $400m contract with Rabotec, pledges job creation

 Asanko Gold

Mining giant Asanko Gold Ghana has signed a four-year contract worth 400 million dollars with Rabotec, signalling confidence in the growth of Ghana’s mining industry and the creation of new employment opportunities.

The agreement, unveiled at a ceremony in Accra, is expected to generate approximately 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect positions, while also promoting skills development and supporting host communities.

Beyond the Numbers

Speaking at the contract signing on March 30, Managing Director Dr Charles Amoah emphasised the strategic nature of the partnership.

Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has entered into a 400-million-dollar contract with Rabotech. This builds on a long-standing relationship and reflects the next phase of our work together. It also allows Rabotech's strong performance over the first two years of the existing contract, giving us confidence in their capability to take on this next phase,” he said.

He emphasised that the contract was about more than finances.

"This is not simply a contract; it reflects a clear business decision that supports Ghana's local content agenda and retains more value within the country. Fundamentally, this is about creating jobs, building skills, and strengthening Ghanaian businesses to operate at a scale and standard this industry demands," he added.

Dr. Amoah highlighted the lasting impact of the partnership. "Through this partnership with Rabotech, we are advancing that approach by creating employment, strengthening local capability, and building skills that will sustain livelihoods well beyond this contract. Not just participation, but capability. Not just jobs, but skills that endure. Under this arrangement, we expect to support approximately 3,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs," he said.

Government Support and Talent Development

The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh, commended the initiative, reaffirming government support for companies that adhere to regulatory standards.

I do not doubt that with the opportunity given, they will excel. And it's not surprising that Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Burkina have all extended a hand for this great company to provide its services to them. So for us as a government, we are ready to support,” he said.

He also noted the agreement provides a platform for nurturing local talent.

"This is the opportunity for us to groom and grow local people to the level that we want them to be. We will do everything regulatorily possible to make sure you succeed," he added, underlining the government’s commitment to fostering growth in the mining sector.

The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme.
