Police officer found dead in suspected suicide at Akweteyman

The Tesano Divisional Police Command has commenced an intensive investigation into the "unnatural death" of a senior police officer, DSP Rockson Gyasi, whose body was discovered at his family residence in Akweteyman in the early hours of Friday, 13th March 2026.

The deceased, who was stationed at Tsito in the Volta Region, had reportedly travelled to visit his family on Tuesday, 10th March. The grisly discovery was made by his wife, Mavis Boateng, who reported the incident to the Tesano Police at approximately 5:46 am.

According to the official situational report (SITREP), the victim’s wife awoke at 5:00 am to find her husband lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found the officer in a supine position. A careful inspection of the body revealed severe injuries on both cheeks of the deceased. The officer’s pistol was found placed on a kitchen stool directly beside the body.

Preliminary investigations have uncovered disturbing digital evidence that may point toward a planned exit. Detectives found that on the day of his arrival, Tuesday, 10th March, DSP Gyasi sent a series of WhatsApp messages to his wife.

The content of these messages reportedly indicated that he was "going back to where he came from", a phrase that investigators are now scrutinising as a possible suicide note or an indication of extreme emotional distress.

Crime scene experts from the Police Headquarters have processed the residence, and photographs of the scene, the weapon, and the electronic messages have been attached to the official case file for further analysis.

The body of DSP Rockson Gyasi has been removed and deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for a post-mortem examination.

The Tesano Division has stated that further developments will be communicated as the investigation seeks to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the discharge of the weapon and the officer's state of mind leading up to the tragedy.
