The Ghana Chamber of Mines has launched the 12th edition of the Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA), officially opening nominations to recognise outstanding achievements and best practices across the country's mining sector.
The awards, which celebrate excellence in mining, are open to mining companies, contractors, service providers and industry professionals whose work made a significant impact during the 2025 reporting year.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Ing. Dr. Kenneth Ashigbey, described the awards as one of the industry's most respected recognition platforms, designed to reward excellence, innovation and responsible mining.
He encouraged eligible organisations and individuals to submit evidence-based nominations that demonstrate measurable outcomes, stressing that credibility and transparency remain at the heart of the awards process.
According to him, all entries will undergo rigorous assessment by an independent multi-stakeholder Awards Board, with the final results subjected to an independent validation process to ensure fairness and integrity.
This year's awards introduce an online nomination portal to make submissions easier and more accessible, while downloadable nomination forms will also remain available.
The awards cover 14 public nomination categories, recognising excellence in areas including innovation, environmental stewardship, occupational health and safety, local content and community development.
Technical award categories, such as Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Local Content and Exploration, will be determined using verified data from regulatory institutions, including the Minerals Commission and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).
The Chamber said all nominations must relate to activities undertaken during the 2025 reporting year and be supported with verifiable evidence that satisfies the prescribed assessment criteria.
Nominations opened on July 15, 2026, and will close on August 14, 2026. Shortlisted nominees are expected to be announced in early November, with winners to be honoured at the awards ceremony on November 27, 2026.
The Ghana Chamber of Mines urged stakeholders across the mining value chain to participate, describing the awards as an opportunity to showcase initiatives that continue to promote responsible mining, sustainable development and operational excellence in Ghana.
We encourage eligible organisations and individuals to submit evidence-based nominations that clearly demonstrate measurable impact. Only verifiable submissions that meet the prescribed criteria will be considered."
