Home Connectivity Will Define The Future Of Digital Living – MTN Ghana Chief Home Officer

Home Connectivity, MTN, InternetThe future of Ghana's digital economy will increasingly be shaped by what happens in the home, with reliable, high-speed internet becoming as essential as electricity and water, according to MTN Ghana's Chief Home Officer, Richard Acheampong.

Speaking during MTN Bright Conversations at MTN House, Accra, Mr Acheampong said the home has evolved into the centre of work, learning, entertainment and entrepreneurship, making dependable home connectivity critical to the country's digital transformation. "The home is now the centre of many things. It is where people work, learn, run businesses and access entertainment. As a technology company, we have a responsibility to provide the digital infrastructure that enables people to live and thrive in the digital economy," he said.

He explained that while mobile internet has transformed communication over the years, changing consumer behaviour has created a growing need for dedicated home broadband services capable of supporting multiple users and devices simultaneously.

Many people first think of mobile internet when they think about connectivity, but today's home has become a digital hub. Families are streaming content, children are attending online classes, professionals are working remotely and small businesses are operating from home. That requires a different level of connectivity," he noted.

Acheampong said MTN's long-term investment in digital infrastructure is aimed at ensuring customers enjoy reliable connectivity that supports every aspect of modern living.

We are not just investing in faster internet. We are investing in an experience that allows people to live their digital lives without interruption. Whether you are attending a virtual meeting, helping your child with online learning, monitoring your home security system or running a business from your living room, the network should simply work."

Addressing the common perception that internet quality is measured only by speed, he stressed that customers value consistency and reliability above all else.

Customers do not wake up thinking about megabits per second; they simply want internet that works. Speed is important because it reflects the strength of the infrastructure behind the service, but what truly matters is the experience. When you switch on your television, join a video call or access online services, everything should happen seamlessly."

Acheampong also challenged the notion that fibre broadband is only meant for affluent households, describing it as an essential service that creates opportunities for every family.

There is a misconception that fibre is for a privileged few, but that isn't the case. We have seen families in modest communities investing in home internet because they understand what it means for their children's education, their businesses and their future. Reliable connectivity gives people access to opportunities that were previously out of reach."

He said the value of home internet goes beyond entertainment, enabling households to access educational resources, support remote work, expand small businesses and improve productivity.

The conversation should not be about the monthly cost alone. It should be about the value reliable connectivity creates. The real cost is when your internet fails during an important business meeting or your child misses an online lesson because the connection is unstable."

Acheampong added that MTN is continually improving the customer journey by making it easier for customers to check fibre availability, apply online, pay digitally and receive installation within committed timelines. He also encouraged customers to pay attention to proper router placement to enjoy the best possible Wi-Fi experience at home.

Looking ahead, he said Ghana is gradually moving beyond connected homes towards intelligent homes, where technology will increasingly anticipate and support everyday living.

In the years ahead, homes will become even more intelligent. Technology will learn people's routines, automate everyday tasks and create more convenient living experiences. Building that future starts with reliable digital infrastructure today."

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
