Ghana Chamber of Mines Hails ZEN Petroleum's GSE Listing, Urges More Indigenous Firms to Tap Capital Market

The Ghana Chamber of Mines has hailed the successful listing of ZEN Petroleum on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), describing it as a landmark achievement for indigenous Ghanaian businesses and a model for local enterprises seeking sustainable growth through the capital market.

In a statement, the Chamber congratulated its member company for reaching the milestone, saying the listing reflects the impact of visionary leadership, sound corporate governance and long-term investment planning.

Founded as a wholly Ghanaian-owned company, ZEN Petroleum has grown into one of the country's leading downstream petroleum companies, supplying fuel and energy solutions to the mining industry and other key sectors of the economy.

According to the Chamber, the company's decision to list on the Ghana Stock Exchange marks a significant step in its corporate evolution by broadening public ownership, strengthening transparency and accountability, and providing access to long-term capital to support future expansion.

ZEN Petroleum's successful listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange is a landmark achievement for indigenous Ghanaian enterprise and a powerful demonstration of what visionary leadership, sound corporate governance and long-term investment can achieve," the Chamber stated.

The Chamber said ZEN Petroleum's achievement should serve as an inspiration to other Ghanaian-owned businesses, many of which continue to depend largely on bank financing despite their growth potential.

It noted that accessing the capital market offers businesses an opportunity to raise patient capital, strengthen governance structures, expand ownership and build institutions capable of enduring across generations.

Listing on the stock exchange enables businesses to mobilise patient capital, strengthen corporate governance, broaden ownership and build institutions that can endure for generations," the statement said.

The Chamber further urged indigenous companies operating in strategic sectors such as mining, manufacturing, agriculture, energy and logistics to consider listing on the Ghana Stock Exchange as part of their long-term growth strategies.

According to the Chamber, stronger locally owned companies are essential to deepening local participation in key industries, strengthening domestic supply chains and ensuring that more of the value generated from Ghana's natural resources remains within the country.

As Ghana seeks to accelerate industrialisation, create jobs and retain greater value within the economy, more indigenous companies should consider following ZEN's example," the Chamber emphasised.

The Chamber commended ZEN Petroleum for setting what it described as an important benchmark for Ghanaian businesses and encouraged more local enterprises to embrace transparency, strengthen corporate governance and leverage the country's capital markets to become regional and global competitors.

It said such a shift would not only improve business resilience but also contribute significantly to Ghana's economic transformation, job creation and long-term prosperity.

Fitch Solutions retains 2025 growth rate projection at 4.2%

Fitch Solutions has reaffirmed its projection that Ghana’s economy will expand by 4.2% in 2025. This estimate slightly exceeds the International Monetary Fund’s forecast of 4% and the World Bank’s projection of 3.9%. The UK-based research firm attributes its outlook to historically high gold prices, which are expected to cushion the Ghanaian economy against a global slowdown triggered by rising tariffs. Higher gold prices are anticipated to strengthen government revenue, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and help sustain currency stability. The report also highlights that Ghana is relatively less vulnerable to increasing trade restrictions from the United States, given that its primary exports—gold and crude oil—are not directly affected by the tariffs introduced by President Trump’s administration. Moreover, the US constitutes only about 4% to 5% of Ghana’s total exports. In contrast, Ghana’s trade relations are more heavily oriented toward China and European countries, particul...

BoG injects $20m into FX market to support 11 BDCs

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has injected $20 million into the foreign exchange market in the latest round of its forward FX auction targeted at Bulk Oil Distribution Companies (BDCs). The intervention, which benefited eleven BDCs, is part of the central bank’s broader strategy to stabilise the cedi and ensure price stability in the petroleum downstream sector. Held on Tuesday, April 29, the auction was priced at a locked exchange rate of GHS 14.28 to the US dollar, with bid offers ranging from GHS 13.85 to GHS 15.55. This move reflects the BoG’s continued effort to deepen forex liquidity and safeguard the domestic fuel supply chain against volatility in global energy markets. By directly supplying FX to BDCs, the central bank seeks to ease pressure on the interbank market, guarantee the uninterrupted flow of petroleum products, and mitigate the pass-through effects of exchange rate fluctuations on fuel prices. The $20 million disbursement forms part of a $120 million programme for th...
