Caring Beyond Connectivity: Mtn Ghana Brings New Life To Hospital Care Through 21 Days Of Y’ello Care

The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and enhancing the well-being of communities through a major hospital bed and furniture refurbishment initiative under this year’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.

Speaking at Maamobi General Hospital, where Stephen joined MTN Ghana employee volunteers and partners to refurbish hospital beds and furniture, he said the initiative reflects MTN’s belief that meaningful change happens when people go beyond financial support and become personally involved in transforming lives.

For patients receiving care, a hospital bed is more than furniture. It is a place of healing, recovery and renewed hope. Through this intervention, MTN Ghana is helping to create safer, more comfortable and dignified spaces for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.

Describing 21 Days of Y’ello Care as one of MTN Ghana’s most impactful employee volunteer initiatives, Stephen noted that every year, employees dedicate their time, energy and skills to making a lasting difference in communities across Ghana.

Giving back is not only about financial contributions. It is about being present, actively participating and working alongside communities to create positive change,” he said.

Under the initiative, MTN Ghana has already refurbished 3,880 hospital beds nationwide. The intervention includes mechanical restoration, repairs, repainting and refurbishment of hospital furniture, including reupholstering wooden furniture across selected healthcare facilities.

Stephen explained that beyond improving infrastructure, the project is ultimately about restoring comfort, dignity and quality care for patients and creating environments that support healing.

He further called on corporate organisations to play a more active role in addressing national development challenges, especially within the healthcare sector.

Imagine the impact if every major company committed to supporting healthcare facilities and other critical sectors. Together, we can strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and improve the quality of life for thousands of people,” he said.

Beyond infrastructure support, MTN Ghana also announced a partnership with DOSH Health Insurance to extend care to vulnerable patients facing financial hardship.

Through the partnership, DOSH Health Insurance will provide health insurance support package valued at GH¢1 million to assist patients who have been medically discharged but are unable to settle their hospital bills.

Speaking on behalf of DOSH Health Insurance, Head of Sales and Marketing, Belinda Amoo, said the initiative demonstrates the power of partnership in ensuring healthcare remains accessible to those who need it most.

This intervention goes beyond settling hospital bills. Beneficiaries will also receive health insurance coverage to support subsequent medical visits throughout the year, ensuring continued access to healthcare services,” she stated.

The programme is expected to support approximately 100 beneficiaries across selected healthcare facilities nationwide, helping individuals return home not only free from financial burden, but with continued access to healthcare support.

Through initiatives such as 21 Days of Y’ello Care, MTN Ghana continues to mobilise employees to contribute their time, skills and passion to initiatives that create lasting impact and support national development, proving that together, communities can be strengthened and lives transformed.

The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme.
