Golf is a Strong Platform for Business and Community Building- Mobile Money CEO

MTN, 3i Africa Summit, Golf

Chief Executive Officer of MTN MoMo Ghana, Shaibu Haruna, has highlighted golf as a valuable platform for networking, relationship building, and business development.

Speaking at the 3i Africa Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra, he said he was pleased to participate in the event, describing it as an ideal setting for both professional and social engagement.

It is a great atmosphere here, and I am glad to be meeting many people. It’s excellent for sportsmanship and community building,” he said.

He explained that golf brings together professionals from different sectors, particularly fintech and banking, creating opportunities to exchange ideas in a relaxed environment.

Haruna noted that MoMo, as the fintech arm of the MTN Group, values platforms that foster collaboration and relationship building across industries.

MoMo is part of the MTN Group family, representing its fintech arm alongside digital infrastructure. We are proud to be part of this sport and look forward to continued involvement,” he added.

He further stated that MTN remains committed to supporting sports and recreational activities as part of its broader community engagement strategy.

The one-day, 18-hole Stableford tournament brought together over 100 amateur golfers from clubs across Ghana and other parts of Africa. It served as a prelude to the main 3i Africa Summit 2026, which officially opens at the Destiny Arena and runs through May 8.

The ceremonial tee-off was attended by key dignitaries, including Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, and the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.

Dr. Asiama used the occasion to reiterate Ghana’s potential as a strong destination for golf and other sporting disciplines, calling for sustained investment in infrastructure and talent development.

He also encouraged wider participation in the sport, noting its benefits for health, fitness, and professional networking opportunities.
