MTN Ghana Foundation’s Investments In Potential Pays As Its Bright Scholars Emerge As Top Award Winners And Valedictorians

MTN Ghana Foundation’s Investments In Potential Pays As Its Bright Scholars Emerge As Top Award Winners And ValedictoriansMTN Ghana Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to education as a powerful driver of social transformation, as beneficiaries of its flagship Bright Scholarship emerged as top award winners and valedictorians at the end of their tertiary education.

The outstanding achievements of the scholars underscore the impact of MTN Ghana Foundation’s deliberate investment in academically gifted but financially constrained students, an intervention designed not only to fund education, but to unlock opportunity, restore confidence and break cycles of disadvantage.

Eight Bright Scholarship beneficiaries who distinguished themselves across various tertiary institutions were celebrated by the Foundation for their academic excellence, resilience, and determination, reflecting the Foundation’s belief that when potential is supported with purpose, excellence follows.

The event gave the valedictorians a platform to recount the personal journeys that carried them from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of their academic pursuits.

Speaking at the gathering to honour the scholars, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, commended the beneficiaries for turning opportunity into achievement and purpose.

What you have achieved is not simply the result of intelligence; it is a testament to your tenacity. We are incredibly proud of each one of you, and we want you to carry this momentum forward. Excellence should not be a destination; it must become a way of life,” she said.

Adwoa further assured the scholars of MTN Ghana’s continued belief in their potential beyond the university environment.

You belong in every room you walk into. With discipline, resilience and purpose, there is no ceiling to what you can achieve. MTN Ghana stands with you not only as a supporter of your education, but as a stakeholder in your future.”

She continued, “You have reminded us of why we do this work. You have shown that when young people are given the right support, they rise beyond circumstance. That is what impact means to us.”

One of the scholarship selection panellists, Mr. Daniel Boateng, highlighted the exceptional quality of applicants for the cohort of Bright Scholars, describing the selection process as both rigorous and transparent.

The calibre of applicants for this cohort was extraordinary. It was one of the most demanding reviews we have undertaken, and it reinforced the depth of untapped talent that exists across the country. This inspired the Foundation to increase the number of scholarships from what was previously planned.”

One of the beneficiaries, Issahaku Hamdia, a graduate of the University for Development Studies, who completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with distinction, shared how the scholarship altered the trajectory of her life.

When I first heard about the scholarship, I was not sure I stood a chance. But MTN believed in me before I fully believed in myself. That belief changed everything, not just my finances, but my confidence, my sense of purpose, and my belief that someone out there genuinely cared about my future."

She described the MTN Bright Scholarship as a life-defining opportunity and encouraged the Foundation to continue investing in young people from underserved communities. The MTN Bright Scholarship remains a cornerstone of MTN Ghana Foundation's education pillar, and one of the most impactful private-sector interventions in tertiary education in Ghana. By supporting high-performing students with demonstrated need, the programme continues to develop a pipeline of skilled, confident and motivated graduates who are better positioned to contribute to national development.

Through initiatives such as the Bright Scholarship, MTN Ghana continues to demonstrate its commitment to being a Force for Good, using its resources, reach, and responsibility to create lasting social impact and transform lives through education.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining firm Engineers & Planners (E&P) has acquired Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, taking full control of the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region. The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme.
