Bright Scholarship: MTN Ghana Foundation Urges Students to Apply Before May 31 Deadline

 MTN Ghana Foundation, Bright Scholarship

The MTN Ghana Foundation has reminded prospective applicants that submissions for its 2026 Bright Scholarship programme will close on May 31, 2026.

In a statement issued in Accra on Friday, the Foundation urged eligible students to complete and submit their applications through the scholarship portal before the deadline.

The scholarship programme is open to continuing students pursuing first degrees at public tertiary institutions, as well as students enrolled in vocational and technical skills training programmes.

Teachers pursuing first degrees and postgraduate STEM-related programmes have also been encouraged to apply.

Applicants are required to be Ghanaian, demonstrate good conduct and maintain strong academic performance.

The MTN Bright Scholarship package covers tuition, accommodation, stipends for books and learning materials, as well as a device for each beneficiary.

Commenting on the initiative, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana, Adwoa Wiafe, said the programme continues to transform the lives of many young people whose educational dreams could have been disrupted by financial challenges.

It is deeply fulfilling to see young people realise their dreams that may otherwise have been cut short without MTN’s intervention,” she said.

She added that MTN remains committed to improving lives and creating opportunities for people through education and digital inclusion.

Having doubled the number of beneficiaries for two years now in response to growing need, we are confident that this intervention will ease the financial burden on deserving students and help reduce the number of students who drop out of school due to financial constraints,” she stated.

The MTN Bright Scholarship programme was launched in 2018 as part of MTN’s commitment to supporting education in Ghana following the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations in 2016.

Under the initiative, MTN pledged to award 300 scholarships over a three-year period through the MTN Ghana Foundation.

Following the programme’s impact, the Foundation renewed the initiative in 2021 as part of activities marking MTN Ghana’s 25th anniversary.

E&P takes over Black Volta and Sankofa Gold projects after years of delay

Indigenous mining firm Engineers & Planners (E&P) has acquired Azumah Resources Ghana Ltd and Upwest Resources Ghana Ltd, taking full control of the long-stalled Black Volta and Sankofa gold concessions in the Upper West Region. The transaction, registered with the Registrar of Companies and approved by the Minerals Commission, ends nearly two decades of under-investment, legal disputes, and capital shortfalls that kept the concessions dormant. With global gold prices trading above $3,000 per ounce, the move comes at a time when Ghana is seeking fresh mining revenue to support its IMF-backed fiscal consolidation programme. E&P announced that it has secured funding to begin mine development and has committed to repaying verified debts associated with the projects.
